# RKC open-source knowledge compiler

Local source atlas, installation and integration contracts.

Repository Knowledge Compiler (RKC): Turn folders, repositories and local documentation exports into a searchable, cited atlas for people, code and agents.

RKC compiles local source into a cited, searchable atlas without requiring a model. It accepts local folders and Git repositories; processed documentation folders and local wiki exports can be combined into knowledge packs.

People can use the local browser. Programs can use the CLI, read-only HTTP API and typed Go client. Agents can use MCP and bounded cited context in Markdown or JSON. Knowledge packs preserve provenance, content hashes and source-licence information; they do not grant rights to the input material.

Run rkc gui to choose a local folder or GitHub repository, then compile it. Public GitHub search needs no account; private repositories use an optional personal access token held only for the local server session. Targets are Linux, macOS 12+ and Windows 10+. Linux compilation requires user-systemd and delegated cgroup v2 controllers. Consult installation requirements and exact release test receipts.

Portable downloads are available. See the release receipts for tested platforms.
