# Ten-minute play: read-aloud companion

Twenty short invitations that an adult can read aloud, adapt or record in their
own voice for the [Ten-minute play, real life](../ten-minute-play-australia/README.md)
cards. This is an original companion, not a formal syllabus. Each script is
written to sound natural when spoken to a child and to leave room for the
child to choose another path or stop.

**What exists now:** 20 voice-ready text scripts and two quiet, optional,
procedurally synthesised non-speech WAV cues. **No narrated speech is
released.** Twenty Australian English speech candidates are held separately
in the [review-pending folder](review-pending/README.md); they are not part of
the CC BY release. The scripts are the full text route. A teacher or carer
can read them without playing any audio.

## Use it

1. Read the linked source [activity card](../ten-minute-play-australia/README.md#a-five-week-path-that-fits-real-life)
   first for materials, supervision, access options and the fuller adult note.
2. Read the matching script in [the index](TRANSCRIPT_INDEX.md) aloud in a
   comfortable pace, or adapt the words to the child's interests and home
   language. No translation is supplied or claimed to be verified.
3. Pause for the child's answer or action. Pointing, signing, AAC, gesture,
   looking, directing an adult and choosing silence all count as responses.
4. A cue can mark an invitation or a pause if the child likes that. The cues
   are optional, quiet and never carry instructions. Do not play them close to
   a child's ear. Start at a low device volume and let the child opt out.

No account, recording or child data is needed. Do not upload a child's voice
or image to use this pack. A spoken invitation does not replace the safety
notes in the original activity card. Read the words yourself if audio is
uncomfortable or unavailable.

## Audio and rights

The two WAV files are original sine-wave sounds made by the included
[build script](build_cues.py); they contain no music, recordings or samples.
Their exact text equivalents are in [cue descriptions](AUDIO_DESCRIPTIONS.md).
