# 01 · Sock detectives

**Ten minutes · home routine / sorting.** **You need:** Three or four clean
socks, preferably with different textures or patterns. Use large socks; keep
the rest of the laundry out of the play space.

**Play:** Put the socks where the child can reach or direct you. Ask which
ones might go together. Make a pair, split it, or invent a sock creature.
Stop when the child has had enough; putting laundry away is optional.

**Adult says:** “What makes these two a team?” “Could that sock belong
somewhere else?” Follow the child's rule, even if it is not your rule.

**Child chooses:** Pair by feel, colour, size, story role, or not at all.
They can point, touch, sign, name or move a sock.

**Notice:** What detail did they use? Did they change a match after looking
again? Record the idea, not whether the socks were paired “correctly.”

**Access and safety:** For low vision, compare textures by touch and describe
patterns aloud. An adult can move socks at the child's direction. Avoid
loose buttons or clips. No screen is needed.
