# 12 · Tiny route map

**Ten minutes · outdoor noticing / movement.** **You need:** A short safe
route in a yard, room or park, plus paper if wanted. An adult chooses an
area away from traffic and hazards.

**Play:** Pick a start and finish, such as bench to tree or cushion to door.
The child chooses the route. Walk, roll, point it out from one place or move
a toy on a paper map. Add one landmark they noticed.

**Adult says:** “Where shall we start?” “What will help us know we are
there?” “Should the path change?” Let the child revise it.

**Child chooses:** Distance, pace, landmark and whether to move or direct
someone else. Reaching a destination is optional.

**Notice:** How did they communicate direction or remember a landmark? Did
they notice a barrier and invent another route?

**Access and safety:** Make a tabletop route with large blocks for a seated
or tactile version. Use spoken landmarks or textured objects for low vision.
Stop at any safety boundary; do not cross roads as part of this game. No
screen is needed; a local photo of the finished map is optional.
