# 18 · Describe and find

**Ten minutes · talk / listening.** **You need:** Three large familiar
objects on a tray or towel. Choose safe items the child can touch. Do not
hide them unless the child asks.

**Play:** One person chooses an object without naming it and gives one clue.
The other finds it, asks for another clue or explains a different guess.
Swap roles. A clue can be about feel, shape, use or an invented story.

**Adult says:** “I'm thinking of something smooth.” “What could I tell you
next?” “Would you like to be the clue-giver?”

**Child chooses:** Objects, role and how to give a clue: speech, home
language, sign, gesture, drawing, touch or AAC. They can reveal the object
straight away.

**Notice:** Which feature did they pick? Did they adjust a clue when the
other person had a different idea? There is no winning or score.

**Access and safety:** For low vision, handle each object before play. For a
deaf child, use visual, tactile or signed clues. Keep the number of objects
small if the tray is busy. No screen is needed.
