# Full paper and text equivalent for the offline representation switch

The [offline page](data-switch.html) has one invented source: **BOOK, BOOK, CUP**, in that order. It has three keyboard buttons: **Object-token drawing**, **Pictures**, **Symbols**. All views keep the same source data: two BOOK entries, one CUP entry, three total. The app does not ask for or store a personal value and makes no network request. The screen's object view is a **drawing of tokens**. For actual *object* representation, use three broad physical paper/card tokens or approved large classroom stand-ins on the [A4 mat](../print/object-picture-symbol-mat.pdf).

## Equivalent paper action

1. Read the source aloud: “On this pretend shelf list: BOOK, BOOK, CUP.” Keep it visible or repeat it as needed.
2. Place **three broad physical tokens** in source order: BOOK, BOOK, CUP. The tokens may be child-placed or moved by an adult under the child's exact direction. They are objects representing source entries, not actual shelf items.
3. On the mat's PICTURES area, draw/select **book outline, book outline, cup outline**. In a tactile version, use large distinct raised outlines with spoken BOOK/CUP labels.
4. On the SYMBOLS area, place/write **B B C**. State the local key: B means BOOK, C means CUP. Read the letter labels aloud; this is not an independent decoding test.
5. Compare every position: first BOOK ↔ book picture ↔ B; second BOOK ↔ book picture ↔ B; third CUP ↔ cup picture ↔ C. Ask “What changed?” (form) and “What stayed?” (source category, order and two/one count).

**Same educational task:** representation and comparison of neutral invented data. The full printed [linear/tactile alternatives](../print/TEXT-ALTERNATIVES.md) and physical tokens make this possible without a screen. A paper response can contribute to **AC9TDIFK02**. It cannot be recorded as actual **AC9TDIFK01 digital-system exploration**. If a child uses an approved offline device, separately note what physical input/display they recognised, what running software changed and what purpose they showed. A button press alone is not enough to claim the full description.

**Access and privacy:** No account, typed input, child name, photo, voice, upload, network or save feature is needed. The school checks device settings, supervision, accessible input/display and local use rules. If the gate is not met, use the paper route and write **digital exploration not observed**, not “failed”.
