# Original six-page data kit and safe preparation

The five **fictional** source badges have two visible fields. ID 1 is **circle + solid border** (`CS`); 2 **triangle + dashed** (`TD`); 3 **circle + dashed** (`CD`); 4 **triangle + solid** (`TS`); 5 **circle + border NOT SHOWN** (`C?`). “Not shown” means **unknown from this source**, not “no border.” The source may be represented with five large **physical** card/foam tokens, five printed pictures and agreed written/tactile symbols. A token must really be a manipulable physical object; a screen image or printed drawing alone remains a picture. For a child who cannot touch, they direct an adult to move the physical token and the adult records the support honestly.

### A · Fictional badge source

The ID, shape and border have word and graphic cues; colour is not the key. The sheet is the **provided fictional source**, not a live plant, animal or inventory. Make broad physical stand-ins if assessing the object form.

### B · Group by shape

The worked assignment is IDs **1, 3, 5** in circle and **2, 4** in triangle. A missing *border* does not hide badge 5's *shape*. Use a broad physical token set or child-directed placements.

### C · Change the rule to border

This is a change of question; no badge itself changed. Keep the source in view. Never force 5 into solid/dashed or treat unknown as a third real border pattern.

### D · Object, picture and symbol display

Three separated broad rows for actual physical tokens, drawn pictures and agreed symbol codes; spaces 1–5 stay aligned with the source. Codes `CS TD CD TS C?` are **our** invented key, not an official alphabet for digital data. A flat page cannot itself supply the physical-object row. Pair it with large safe stand-ins.

### E · Fictional holder trial record

[A4 SVG](print/trial-record.svg) · [A4 PDF](print/trial-record.pdf). A made-up class story marks **P HELD**, **Q SLIPPED**, **R NOT TESTED**, **S HELD** for a five-card holder. These are stated source data, not results from this class, predictions from material names or a comparative material study. Children can group P/S under HELD, Q under SLIPPED and R under NOT TESTED, then represent that source faithfully. ### F · Own-data and source evidence mat

Keep **MY NAME · EMPTY**, **MY FACE PHOTO · EMPTY** and **MY VOICE RECORDING · EMPTY** distinct from a neutral badge icon and fictional holder mark. These are empty category examples only; never ask a child to fill or share them. A separate panel says PAPER PLAN / ACTUAL DEVICE ACTION / REAL LOCAL OBSERVATION so evidence types are not silently merged.

**Set up:** print or display large high-contrast copies, prepare clean broad safe physical tokens with fixed raised outline/ID cues, check loose parts and materials under school policy, and offer pointing, AAC, neutral reading/scribing and pass. No outdoor collection, child data, camera, account or internet is required. Source photographs or local material-test results, if substituted, need separate rights, provenance, safety and privacy review.
