# Day 84 — Collect what the class actually answered

**Success:** Learners gather anonymous voluntary one-choice picture responses to the given class question, sort received cards and report **actual** category counts and total without using a fictional answer key.

**Prepare:** enough large anonymous C/W/P choice cards or identical category tokens for all willing learners; three covered, labelled envelopes or a private folded-card box; [display](view-choice-data.svg) with extension sheets if needed; teacher's private [record line](print-aids.md). Show the invented views/descriptions before asking. Do not photograph cards or children.

1. **Retrieve, 3 min.** Ask, “What does one received card count?” One response. Remind the class that a pass needs no explanation and gives no C/W/P mark.
2. **Model and remove, 5 min.** Read the exact question and three mutually exclusive choices. Put one **demonstration** card into a model envelope; take it back out. Say, “Now our count starts at zero. Our result is not already printed.” Confirm privacy and an AAC/tactile/adult-directed choice route.
3. **Private collection and sort, 10 min.** Invite willing learners to fold one chosen card and deposit it, or direct a trusted adult privately. A small sorting team opens cards behind a screen, puts each in exactly one C/W/P mat and sets unclear/multiple cards aside for private clarification. Teacher verifies there are no names and no duplicates. If collection needs longer, finish it later and mark live results pending; use the fictional P3 bag for today's mathematical sort **with its source clearly labelled**.
4. **Display and check, 4 min.** Pair each classified actual card with one picture mark. Count C, W, P and unclear separately. Check **C + W + P + unclear = all received**. If a column outgrows the page, extend it; do not drop cards or call the total enrolment. A child independently checks one category against its marks.
5. **Close, 3 min.** Ask what the most common **received** choice was, allowing a tie or no usable response. **Key:** there is **no fixed real-class answer**. State exact counts only if observed. A missing or inaccessible collection is “not observed,” not a zero vote.

**If duplicate marks appear:** Pair each actual card to one mark and remove extras. **Access and record:** private tactile/word symbols, child-directed adult placement, text or spoken description, quiet/remote independent response permitted by local rules. Record date, source, actual counts, any unclear cards, comparison and prompts in the school's approved private system; display aggregate counts only.
