# Day 90 — Fresh data and map check

**25 minutes · AC9MFST01; AC9MFN03 small count sample; AC9MFSP02 partial formative samples · educator review pending**

**Success:** The teacher records independent collection/sort/display reasoning on a new fictional picture-response set and relative-location/connected-route reasoning on an unfamiliar paper map, then chooses an exact next move. Neither sample is a full achievement-standard judgement.

**Prepare:** [assessment.md](assessment.md); sealed [A90](print-aids.md) C2/W3/P3 cards; clean blank [data display](view-choice-data.svg); covered [fresh map B](fresh-map.svg) with large marker. Select **one focus learner** for a careful individual check in this 25-minute block; schedule remaining learners in Days 86–90 independent rotations or later. Others work on familiar P1/map A practice without seeing A90/map B.

1. **Retrieve, 3 min.** Ask the class what one picture mark stands for and what a direction needs: a named start, connected path and destination. Do not reveal held-out results or map B.
2. **Model the checking rule, 5 min.** On **familiar** P1 and map A, model checking one card to one mark and following one solid link. Say, “Today I will watch your first try on new materials, then decide what to teach next.” Put familiar materials away from the focus table.
3. **Fresh individual check, 9 min.** Hear one focus learner for about eight minutes plus reset: the child sorts A90, makes/points to one mark per card, compares categories, then sees map B and traces a requested path. Capture first independent actions and explanations. If the full check needs longer, finish it in the next private rotation; do not record an unobserved result.
4. **Source and position, 5 min.** Focus learners or later learners answer the exact [assessment](assessment.md) questions: source of A90, tie and total; on map B, SHADE relative to BENCH with orientation fixed, and route GATE→BENCH→SHADE→BIN when asked to go by SHADE. Record mathematical hints separately from access supports.
5. **Close, 3 min.** Tell each observed learner one exact strength and one next practice target. **Key:** A90 C2/W3/P3, W/P tie, total8, fictional; map B SHADE right of BENCH and required via-SHADE route has three solid links. Finish individual rubrics after the lesson.

**If an unfamiliar map is hard to read visually:** Use its exact text/tactile alternative without coaching the route. **Access and record:** large or raised lanes, grippable tokens, spoken/transcribed labels, AAC/sign/pointing, digital movement and quiet individual check. Note not observed for any absent/inaccessible component; do not award data or spatial evidence from a chorus.
