## Real-source gate: a safe tabletop passage

The teacher chooses a school-approved, firm, flat table/mat and fixes two **broad** straight paper or fabric strips so they mark a passage. Strips are not a raised barrier. Adult checks no sharp edge, loose small part, heavy book, unstable stack, projectile, pinch point or floor-trip route. Use one large, smooth-edged, verified card-like object, or another approved broad object that can be moved slowly while flat. No child is asked to move through a gate; this is about objects only. The adult may move the object for everyone. Children can opt out of touch or sound. Do not use a mobility aid or a person's body as the tested object. Do not force, bend, squeeze, flick, roll, race or push toward someone.

For each **actual** attempt, record the local date; specific table/mat; verified material or UNKNOWN; measured passage width; measured object width and orientation; fixed start line; mover and gentle action; direct/attributed access; and result **INSIDE WITHOUT TOUCHING**, **TOUCHED A LINE**, **STOPPED BEFORE**, or **NOT TESTED**. Check width with an adult ruler; dimensions below are *fictional model numbers* until measured locally. Children need not measure or subtract centimetres to access the Science target: the adult may read width labels and align two broad fixed strips to show inside/overlap. The same action/conditions should be kept where a comparison is claimed. Record accidental differences and do not present them as controlled. A child may point, sign, draw, speak, use AAC, direct the adult or receive a neutral attributed **ADULT REPORT**. An adult report is not the child's direct sensory observation. For an actual attempt record the child's prediction **before** movement, or write NOT RECORDED. A post-event guess is not a prior prediction. For a model only, record MODEL, model-use date and what marks or words show; write **REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE** and no actual movement result. If a real try is unsafe or impossible, the paper route is a legitimate lesson route, but it does not sample actual AC9SFI02 or AC9SFU02 movement evidence.

The passage is a classroom investigation, not a verdict about who can share a place or whether a person belongs. A line touch is an observation, not failure by a child. Source-specific limits: an actual result applies to that object, surface, gap, orientation and gentle action, not to every object of that shape; a fit calculation from widths is a model prediction, not a real trial. Do not infer material composition from colour. Local school safety, privacy and accessibility rules govern any real attempt. Where absent, mark **NEW EVIDENCE** for a fresh dated try and never invent prior classroom history.

## Complete original fictional teaching sources

**Model P · paper passage, not a trial.** Full card: “FICTIONAL MODEL P. Two straight lines on paper are 9 cm apart. A blue rectangular outline is 12 cm by 6 cm. At START its 6 cm side is across the passage. An arrow points toward the opening; the outline is drawn between the lines. A second drawing turns the same outline so its 12 cm side is across; it overlaps both lines. The author has not moved any object. The drawing suggests a question about orientation; it does not show an actual result.” Colour is decorative and has no evidential role. Exact nonvisual route: adult reads all seven content sentences and places broad fixed START, 9 CM GAP, 6 CM ACROSS, 12 CM ACROSS, DRAWN ARROW and NOT TESTED labels left to right; raised lines may trace the drawing as a **model**.

**Model Q · paper comparison, not a trial.** Full card: “FICTIONAL MODEL Q. One drawn passage is 9 cm wide. An outline marked R is a rectangle 8 cm across the passage. An outline marked S is a rectangle 12 cm across the passage. Both outlines say SAME CARDBOARD in this invented plan. In the plan R is drawn within the lines; S crosses a line. No cardboard object has been measured or moved here. Ask what an actual check would need.” Read the seven sentences exactly; fixed broad R, S, SAME CARDBOARD, 9 CM GAP and NOT TESTED cards are the tactile option. Same cardboard is a **story label**, not verification of a local material.

**Model T · changed passage.** Full card: “FICTIONAL MODEL T. A 12 cm wide rectangle is drawn across a 9 cm passage, crossing one line. The same outline is drawn across a 14 cm passage, inside both lines. The author changed the passage width in a drawing. No actual card movement or controlled test is supplied.” Tactile route uses two fixed wide gap strips marked 9 CM and 14 CM, one broad 12 CM outline and a NOT TESTED card; the adult reads source and limit.

**Vocabulary and result cards.** SOURCE, DATE, MODEL, ACTUAL, ADULT REPORT, OBJECT WIDTH, PASSAGE WIDTH, ORIENTATION, PREDICTION BEFORE, INSIDE WITHOUT TOUCHING, TOUCHED A LINE, STOPPED BEFORE, NOT TESTED, UNKNOWN. These are labels, not prefilled observations. A large fixed card or adult reading replaces small movable tokens.
