# Ten optional family choices · no burden and no homework

These are **not homework**. No family needs to buy, print, photograph, upload, touch a plant or animal, find two species, or report back. A caregiver may offer one playful question in a familiar language, sign or AAC, or skip it. No child or family participation is used as evidence of classroom Science inquiry. Follow local safety around wildlife, unfamiliar plants and privacy.

| 141 | Ask, “What outside mark can you see on a favourite invented picture?” Add “It is a picture.” |
| 142 | Draw two broad shapes in the air, one curved and one pointed; let the child choose a rule. |
| 143 | If naturally near a safe approved view, wonder aloud, “What can we see from here?” A pass is equally welcome. |
| 144 | In a storybook, say, “Could another picture have that shape too?” No real-species claim is needed. |
| 145 | After school, let the child invent a silly picture rule and find a picture that breaks it. |
| 146 | Sort imaginary hats first by outline, then by colour; name each changed rule. |
| 147 | Cover part of a drawing with a hand and say, “Hidden here is not the same as absent.” |
| 148 | If a safe new view happens naturally, let the child guess beforehand and notice afterward; no view means no comparison. |
| 149 | Ask the child to explain one model counterexample to a willing listener; a quiet pass is fine. |
| 150 | Ask, “What might we need to see before saying *every*?” Keep the question open. |
