# Foundation / Prep Science · ten 25-minute teacher scripts, Days 141–150

Read the [source/safety gate and complete fictional notebook](MATERIALS.md) before teaching. Every day totals **3 + 4 + 5 + 7 + 4 + 2 = 25 minutes**. The [learner cards](LEARNER-CARDS.md) vary response and access at the same target; [worked swaps](OPTIONAL-PRACTICE.md) change context. Do not assign children to fixed “learning styles.” An approved real source is optional; if none exists, mark **REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE** and teach the complete **FICTIONAL MODEL** route. Keep actual view, PHOTO, attributed **ADULT REPORT** and invented notebook apart. Hold the [fresh Day 145/150 checks](ASSESSMENT.md) and [separate key](TEACHER-KEY.md) until each child's first independent response.

## Week 29 · Day 141 — What does the notebook really show?

**Goal:** name one external mark in each of two paper figures and separate drawn feature from actual organism. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01 (model reasoning only), AC9SFH01, AC9SFI03. **Prepare:** complete N1–N4 source, [four figures](four-notebook-figures.svg), Card 141.

1. **Source · 3 min.** Say “These are my invented notebook drawings. They are not photographs or living things.” Set the actual-source line to REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE unless a separately approved view occurs.
2. **View · 4 min.** Show N1 and N3 in order. Read N1's three round-ended leaf marks and N3's two pointed ear marks without asking for species names.
3. **Model · 5 min.** Point to a leaf outline and an ear outline: “Both are outside marks; they are not the same body part. A drawing shows only what was drawn.”
4. **Child try · 7 min.** Card 141 routes identify one exact external mark on each picture and label both FICTIONAL MODEL; save child's own wording.
5. **Probe · 4 min.** Ask, “Does the paper prove a real animal has those ears?” Accept “No, it is a puppet drawing,” then ask what genuine source would be needed.
6. **Exit · 2 min.** Save two model marks plus source limit, not a real biological result.

## Week 29 · Day 142 — State one rule before sorting

**Goal:** sort all four paper drawings under one stated visible-outline rule without changing it halfway. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01 (model reasoning), AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. **Prepare:** N1–N4, [pointed-rule sort](pointed-rule-sort.svg), Card 142.

1. **Name · 3 min.** Label the four drawings FICTIONAL MODEL and place their small copies in UNSORTED.
2. **Rule · 4 min.** Say “pointed outer mark seen / rounded outer mark seen in this drawing”; identify leaf tip or ear tip when explaining.
3. **Model · 5 min.** Place N2 under pointed and N1 under rounded while naming their different leaf outlines; do not call N2 an animal.
4. **Child try · 7 min.** Card 142 routes place N3 and N4, then reread all four placements against the same rule. An unclear mark waits rather than being forced.
5. **Probe · 4 min.** Ask whether the pointed bin proves all members share the author's plant/animal label; invite a cautious “we need the label source.”
6. **Exit · 2 min.** Save stated rule and four model placements only.

## Week 29 · Day 143 — Four real sources, when they exist

**Goal:** create a provenance-separated feature record for distinct real plant and animal subjects, or explicitly record that the real inquiry was unavailable. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01, AC9SFI02 (approved direct live view only), AC9SFI03. **Prepare:** adult preflight, [four-source gate](four-source-gate.svg), [two-pair log](two-pair-log.svg), Card 143.

1. **Adult gate · 3 min.** Confirm safe approval, two distinct plants, two distinct animals, rights for any real photo, local date and access. If a condition fails, write REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE and use N1–N4 model records instead.
2. **Question · 4 min.** Ask “Which outer feature can we actually see in each view?” Name LIVE, PHOTO, ADULT REPORT or MODEL before showing.
3. **Inspect/read · 5 min.** Show approved distinct subjects without handling, disturbance or guessing identity; record actual view and interruptions. In fallback, read N1–N4 explicitly as FICTIONAL MODEL.
4. **Child raw record · 7 min.** Card 143 routes capture subject IDs, exact feature words, source/date/access and NOT VISIBLE or UNCLEAR. Keep two crops of one source under one ID.
5. **Probe · 4 min.** Ask what a hidden root, wing or ear means in this view. Model answer: “not visible here,” never “has none.”
6. **Exit · 2 min.** Save four distinct genuine records only if made; otherwise a labelled model log.

## Week 29 · Day 144 — A counterexample changes the claim

**Goal:** identify N2 as a counterexample to the notebook author's broad pointed-means-animal rule and revise the claim. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01 (model reasoning), AC9SFH01, AC9SFI03. **Prepare:** exact notebook claim, [revision board](revise-rule-board.svg), Card 144.

1. **Retrieve · 3 min.** Keep N1–N4 on the table; say that the notebook author's words are fiction.
2. **Claim · 4 min.** Read exactly “Every drawing with a pointed outer part is an animal drawing.” Children identify the word “every.”
3. **Counterexample · 5 min.** Compare N2's pointed leaf marks and the author's PLANT DRAWING label with N3's pointed ear marks and ANIMAL PUPPET DRAWING label.
4. **Child revise · 7 min.** Card 144 routes name N2 and say “pointed marks appear in both labelled drawing groups; pointiness alone does not settle the author's label.” Record the first unprompted version.
5. **Probe · 4 min.** Ask whether N2 proves that all actual plants have pointed leaves. Child says it is one fictional paper drawing.
6. **Exit · 2 min.** Save first rule, named counterexample and bounded new statement on separate lines.

## Week 29 · Day 145 — Fresh grouping check

**Goal:** independently apply a new paper-feature rule, find a counterexample and state the real-evidence limit. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01 (model reasoning), AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. **Prepare:** unseen [teacher-held Case AF](ASSESSMENT.md), blank [revision board](revise-rule-board.svg); Card 145 follows the first response.

1. **Preflight · 3 min.** Keep AF unseen; set exact read-aloud, large print or broad secured tactile alternative.
2. **Present · 4 min.** Read the complete new FICTIONAL PAPER CASE once without pointing to the counterexample.
3. **Think · 5 min.** Give quiet independent time; record any neutral exact reread.
4. **First independent response · 7 min.** Child sorts by the stated feature, identifies the conflicting author label, revises the claim and distinguishes drawing from real plant/animal evidence.
5. **Bound · 4 min.** Ask what distinct real sources and dates would be needed to test the idea outside the paper case. Paper route remains REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE.
6. **Close · 2 min.** Use the [separate key](TEACHER-KEY.md) only after the first response; reteach later with Card 145.

## Week 30 · Day 146 — A different rule makes different groups

**Goal:** describe two valid model groupings by naming the rule each time, without silently moving between rules. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01 (model reasoning), AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. **Prepare:** N1–N4, [pointed sort](pointed-rule-sort.svg), [revision board](revise-rule-board.svg), Card 146.

1. **Source · 3 min.** Restore FICTIONAL MODEL label and four drawings; leave actual logs apart.
2. **Recall · 4 min.** Rebuild the pointed-versus-rounded outline groups from Day 142.
3. **New rule · 5 min.** State “stem-and-leaf marks visible / leg marks visible.” N1/N2 and N3/N4 now form different pairs because the rule changed.
4. **Child try · 7 min.** Card 146 routes compare the two sorts and say which observable feature each used; do not say one grouping is universally correct.
5. **Probe · 4 min.** Ask, “Did N2 change?” Child explains the drawing stayed the same while the question changed.
6. **Exit · 2 min.** Save both rule labels and memberships, clearly marked as model examples.

## Week 30 · Day 147 — Not visible is not absent

**Goal:** describe a feature hidden by a view as NOT VISIBLE rather than absent, and ask for a better safe view. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01 (model reasoning), AC9SFH01, AC9SFI03. **Prepare:** N1/N2 lower-page cut-off, Notebook claim C, [two-pair log](two-pair-log.svg), Card 147.

1. **Locate · 3 min.** Show that the bottom of N1/N2 is cut off in the invented notebook.
2. **Claim · 4 min.** Read “N1 has no roots because none are drawn.” State that the notebook supplies no lower view.
3. **Model · 5 min.** Record “roots NOT VISIBLE IN THIS DRAWING”; do not add a hidden root to the evidence record.
4. **Child try · 7 min.** Card 147 routes rewrite the claim and suggest an approved fuller real view or source question rather than pulling up a plant.
5. **Probe · 4 min.** Ask if the same “not visible” wording works for a photo cropped above an animal's feet; child preserves the image limit.
6. **Exit · 2 min.** Save precise unknown, safe next question and source label.

## Week 30 · Day 148 — Predict before a genuine new view

**Goal:** make an earlier feature prediction and compare it with a later approved observation only when both actually occur. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFI01, AC9SFI02 (approved direct live view only), AC9SFI04 (genuine prior/result only), AC9SFU01. **Prepare:** new approved distinct living/photo source if available, gate, [two-pair log](two-pair-log.svg), Card 148.

1. **Gate · 3 min.** Check approval, distinct identity, rights, date, access and no disturbance. If unavailable, label N model exercise and REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE.
2. **Prior words · 4 min.** Before any new genuine view, child predicts a visible external feature or selects NO PREDICTION; record exact words and timing.
3. **View/model · 5 min.** Reveal only the approved real view and source label, or read a different N drawing as an explicitly fictional paper reveal.
4. **Record · 7 min.** Card 148 routes write exact later visible feature, NOT VISIBLE or UNCLEAR; record LIVE/PHOTO versus ADULT REPORT. Do not copy a model feature into actual log.
5. **Compare · 4 min.** Compare only a true earlier prediction with a true later observed feature; otherwise write CANNOT COMPARE. “My guess was right” without a view is not evidence.
6. **Exit · 2 min.** Save order, source and one bounded next question.

## Week 30 · Day 149 — Explain a revised rule privately

**Goal:** share one source-backed feature rule, a counterexample and one limit with a willing listener. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01 (actual if sourced), AC9SFH01, AC9SFI05. **Prepare:** consented actual four-source log if present or N model, [feature-share strip](feature-share-strip.svg), Card 149.

1. **Choose · 3 min.** Child selects an approved private actual record or clearly labelled N fiction, a spoken/signed/AAC/drawn route, and a willing adult/peer.
2. **Read · 4 min.** Retrieve one exact feature and source; keep an image creator/rights credit separate from child identity.
3. **Model · 5 min.** Say “In these invented drawings, N2 has a pointed leaf mark and N3 a pointed ear mark. That defeats the author's every-pointed-is-animal-drawing line.”
4. **Child share · 7 min.** Card 149 routes state rule, source, counterexample, revised claim and unknown without asserting a real species fact from fiction.
5. **Listen · 4 min.** Record exact actual listener reply if it occurred; otherwise write NO ACTUAL LISTENER RESPONSE. A scripted rehearsal is not feedback.
6. **Exit · 2 min.** Save child-directed bounded explanation and listener status; no score or improvement claim.

## Week 30 · Day 150 — Fresh source-and-rule check

**Goal:** independently group a new paper set, resist a broad false rule, preserve an unclear view and propose one safe real-source question. **Proposed codes:** AC9SFU01 (model reasoning), AC9SFH01, AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. **Prepare:** unseen [teacher-held Case AG](ASSESSMENT.md), blank [feature-share strip](feature-share-strip.svg); Card 150 after first response.

1. **Preflight · 3 min.** Keep AG unrehearsed and separate from the teaching notebook; prepare exact accessible equivalent and private first-response record.
2. **Present · 4 min.** Read all new FICTIONAL PAPER CASE labels and view limits once, without giving a category.
3. **Think · 5 min.** Offer quiet time or exact neutral reread; document supports.
4. **First independent response · 7 min.** Child states a feature rule, identifies a counterexample, holds one unclear view apart and says what the invented source can support.
5. **Real boundary · 4 min.** Child proposes distinct approved actual plant/animal views or rights-cleared real photos with source/date; paper-only stays REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE.
6. **Close · 2 min.** Consult [separate key](TEACHER-KEY.md) after response for one next teaching move, not a mastery verdict.
