# Bring the lesson closer to home

SubjectNest teacher support | Original supplementary guide | 2 October 2026

A local fact can give a lesson a useful job. Start with something learners might actually want to know: which public place offers a resource, what a table says about an area, or what a weather measurement means. Keep the source small enough to check properly.

## Choose your next step

- [Find and check one example](GUIDE.html): a short workflow, useful official starting points, and ways to keep examples fresh.
- [Use the blank source card](CARD.html): editable original text for paper, your usual document editor, dictation or an agreeing helper.
- [Make and save a local card](card-desk.html): fill the fields in your browser, preview your writing and keep an editable copy for next time. The optional editor needs JavaScript; it does not fetch or verify facts.
- [Try six worked examples](EXAMPLES.html): local places, Census boundaries, privacy adjustments, clouds, weather labels and a local activity invitation. Each has a task, a checked response and options.
- [See exactly what was checked](SOURCES.html): dates, source locators, rights and the limits of this edition.
- [Keep the full notices](NOTICE.html): original work, source credits and separate provider rights.

The complete teacher pack, teacher-local-examples.zip, keeps the readable pages, editable originals, diagram and full notices together. If you have unpacked it, you already have those files.

In the saved pack, open the start page, index.html. You can read the guide without JavaScript and edit the original text in your usual editor. Use your browser's usual Print command and check its preview before printing; longer text and source URLs may continue across pages.

Sources change. This guide does not fetch or refresh them: open a relevant provider page, check the actual item, and keep a dated copy of the example you choose. The six worked examples have the narrow learning jobs stated beside them. Choose their age, context and curriculum fit for your class.
