# Year 10 Weeks 1–2 · test a claim, then choose with evidence

Run [English](english/LESSONS.md) and [mathematics](mathematics/LESSONS.md) for **25 minutes each day**, and the indicated [Science](integrated/week-01.md) or [Economics and Business](integrated/week-02.md) guide in a separate **35-minute block**. The [teacher start guide](../../README.md) explains review and evidence boundaries. Each subject file includes scripts, access routes and keyed next steps; learners receive [English readings](english/STUDENT-READING.md), [English task cards](english/STUDENT-TASKS.md), [maths data](mathematics/STUDENT-DATA.md), [maths checks](mathematics/STUDENT-CHECKS.md), [integrated source cards](integrated/STUDENT-SOURCE-CARDS.md) and [integrated checks](integrated/STUDENT-CHECKS.md) **when the daily lesson calls for them**. Teacher interpretations and keys remain in master materials and assessment files.

| Day | English · 25 min | Mathematics · 25 min | Integrated · 35 min |
|---:|---|---|---|
| 1 | Narrative values and evidence | Paired route data | Science: name force, mass, acceleration |
| 2 | Narrative versus poem voice | Plot repeated cart trials | Science: represent simulated readings |
| 3 | Excluding language and implied value | Describe association | Science: design a valid finish comparison on paper |
| 4 | Compare post/caption structure | Audit selective headline | Science: peer-audit a bounded caption |
| 5 | Independent caption check | Statistics check A | Science: ideal model and claim check |
| 6 | Four- versus ten-month argument | Write linear cost rules | Economics: facts, assumptions, criteria |
| 7 | Conditional sentence and horizon | Solve plan crossing | Economics: compare horizons |
| 8 | Visible punctuation and limits | Solve budget inequalities | Economics: source questions |
| 9 | Draft conditional recommendation | Modify a model | Economics: criteria and response |
| 10 | Independent claim revision | Linear model check B | Economics: present, question, revise |

**Code boundary:** The first fortnight addresses selected Year 10 English, mathematics, Science and Economics and Business descriptions listed exactly in the [crosswalk](../../CURRICULUM-CROSSWALK.md). No session or fortnight completes an achievement standard. Local timing and subject allocations must be checked by the school.

**Preparation:** Print [scatterplot frames](print/scatterplot-frame.pdf), [cost board](print/cost-comparison.pdf) and [claim-check aid](print/claim-check.pdf), or use the [text/tactile equivalents](print/TEXT-ALTERNATIVES.md). Supply paper, pencil and ruler; no device or laboratory apparatus is essential. The cart numbers are **authored simulation**, and all pricing is **invented**. Keep this label visible whenever a sheet is detached from the guide.

**Assessment feasibility:** A 2–3 minute close invites every learner to attempt a response; one teacher samples a planned few explanations and rotates. Day 5/10 independent work is collected for later reading. A quiet individual recheck can happen later; do not claim to interview every learner during the short closing minute. Follow school data policy and do not send child work to SubjectNest.
