# Year 11 Queensland General Biology · opening fortnight · Days 1–10

**Optional senior science pathway.** These ten **25-minute starter lessons** sample [QCAA Biology General senior syllabus 2025 v1.3](https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/downloads/senior-qce/syllabuses/snr_biology_25_syll.pdf), Unit 1 *Cells and multicellular organisms*, Topic 1 *Cells as the basis of life*. Topic 1 is notionally **15 hours**; this pack supplies 250 minutes and does **not** finish that topic, the 55-hour unit, a Year 11 Biology course, a practical investigation or a school assessment instrument. Biology is an elective General subject, not a universal Year 11 curriculum requirement. School teachers choose pacing, actual laboratory work, local safety, access adjustments and formal assessment.

**Start here:** Read [teacher scripts](LESSONS.md), then give learners the original [fact/model cards](MODEL-CARDS.md), [clean tasks](LEARNER.md) and three [equivalent-target routes each day](DAILY-CHOICES.md). [Optional extra/home invitations](DAILY-EXTRAS.md) use only these pages and paper. The four [A4 aids](print/TEXT-ALTERNATIVES.md) have original SVG/PDF and complete text/tactile versions. Days 5 and 10 use [new-case public formative cards](STUDENT-CHECKS.md) and a [separate public teacher-facing worked key](teacher/ANSWER-AND-NEXT.md). Both are accessible by URL, so they are **not secure examinations**; make a locally unseen parallel card if first encounter matters.

**Scientific scope:** Students compare the shared features of cells with prokaryotic/eukaryotic organisation, identify the functions of nine QCAA-named organelles in deliberately simplified typical-cell models, and connect a specialised cell to tissue, organ and system. A diagram is a model, not a microscope image. **Not shown** never means **biologically absent** unless a model card explicitly states a complete inventory for its limited comparison. Leaf cells are not all identical; not all plant cells contain chloroplasts. Ribosomes are not membrane-bound. These lessons do **not** cover stem-cell potency, detailed membrane transport, surface-area-to-volume experiments, tissue microscopy or the full Topic 1 science inquiry program. See the [exact syllabus point/limit crosswalk](CURRICULUM-CROSSWALK.md) and [source/rights ledger](SOURCE-AND-RIGHTS.md).

**Access and safety:** Learners may annotate, move full-word numbered cards under their direction, or type/dictate/use AAC to give the same cell-feature evidence and limited inference. They can switch routes; no fixed “learning style” or disability label is presumed. A read-aloud gives access but does not alone evidence independent reading. No live specimens, stains, microscopes, medical histories, cultures, ingestion, chemicals or real patient claims are required. No diagnosis or health advice is provided. Any later practical work needs the school's risk process and qualified teacher. No one needs to share personal health information.

The [teacher/learner/supporter desk run](QA-RUN-THROUGH.md) describes what was checked and what still needs people in a class. The [source and rights ledger](SOURCE-AND-RIGHTS.md) and [local file receipt](MANIFEST.sha256) support reuse and audit. There has been **no classroom pilot, specialist usability test, translation validation, cultural review or measured learning impact**.
