# Learner pages · ten Economics starters

Read only the assigned [fictional practice card](CASE-CARDS.md) and use a [route](DAILY-CHOICES.md) you can change at any time. An economic model makes assumptions to isolate a relationship. Label your units and do not treat a model output as a real market statistic or a judgement about fairness. You can write, move full-word cards, draw, speak, sign, dictate, type or use AAC. You never need to describe your household's finances or choices.

| Day | Seven-minute task | Hand in |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 · Constraint | Use B and D to identify each chooser, limited input, two uses and forgone alternative. | Two constraint/chooser/alternative triples. |
| 2 · Next best | Explain B's two-hour switch and 24 forgone catalogued books; distinguish output from money. | Decision, next-best alternative, correct unit and unknown value. |
| 3 · Three questions | Ask what/how much, how and for whom for D. | Three-question note, technical-efficiency possibility and equity unknown. |
| 4 · Inputs | Match C's four examples with four factors and income categories. | Four matches, plus “category is not an observed payment.” |
| 5 · Fresh check A | Respond to File G before seeing feedback. | Scarcity, opportunity cost, factors, a basic question and a limit. |
| 6 · Frontier | Plot A's five maximum pairs or order them in an accessible coordinate list. | Axes/units, five pairs, and *ceteris paribus* meaning fixed relevant inputs/technique here. |
| 7 · Positions | Classify F1, F2 and (2,6); compute one opportunity cost from A. | Frontier/inside decisions, units and cause-unknown note. |
| 8 · New technique | Compare A's old frontier with E's one proposed new feasible point. | Old and new coordinates, cautious interpretation and missing evidence. |
| 9 · Choice | Compare F1/F2 using a stated criterion, then identify an equity question. | Three-circle/one-workshop trade-off, criterion, evidence request. |
| 10 · Fresh check B | Respond to File H before feedback. | New frontier reasoning, correct cost, bounded choice and equity limit. |

**Useful response frame:** `case evidence → economic idea → calculation/diagram with units → what remains unknown`. The two [fresh checks](STUDENT-CHECKS.md) and their answers are public; your teacher may use a locally changed case for a first-encounter assessment. These activities do not give policy or financial advice.
