# Two public new-case formative checks · learner cards

These cards and the separate [teacher-facing worked responses](teacher/ANSWER-AND-NEXT.md) are **publicly accessible**. Each case is new relative to Days 11–14 or 16–19, but prior public access can remove the first-encounter condition. They are short teaching checks, not secure tests, QCAA assessment instruments, A–E judgments or QCE results. A teacher can make a locally new parallel case if first encounter matters. Keep the first response and record source access, prompting, mode and extra time separately. Every organisation and character below is imaginary.

## Day 15 check A · Map Room

**Text K · public webpage notice.** *Maker: fictional Map Room team, addressing potential contributors to an imaginary display.*

> **Every visitor makes the map.** Send us a short note about a route that matters to you. Notes can be handed in without a name. The team plans six display panels and will choose which notes to show. We have not stated the selection criteria or when contributors can review the displayed wording. A note being received does not mean it will appear on a panel.

> Ina drew a square where the old footbridge might have been. The paper map had room for streets but not for her hesitation. She wrote *the long way home* beside the square. A volunteer asked if she wanted to leave the note. Ina turned the paper over. “I want to see how you would use it first,” she said. The pen remained in her hand.

**Task:** Write a 90–130-word note, or equivalent agreed response, to a fictional display editor. Compare how K and L represent participation. Identify each maker and likely audience/purpose; use one exact phrase from each; analyse one language or narrative choice and a plausible reader effect; distinguish a stated condition from an unknown. End with one useful question or a more careful headline. You may prefer a positive or critical reading if it is source-backed and bounded. Choose a route from [Day 15](DAILY-CHOICES.md). No personal route story is needed.

## Day 20 check B · Screen Shelf

**Text M · public call.** *Maker: fictional Screen Shelf group, addressing people who might submit an imaginary short clip.*

> **Every clip finds its audience here.** Send a thirty-second film or a still-image sequence with a written description. We plan four screening slots. Contributors can request that their name not appear in the programme. We have not explained how clips will be selected or whether a maker can review edits before the screening. Submitting does not guarantee a slot.

> Tari watched a tiny paper boat turn in the last frame. On the laptop it travelled in a circle; on the desk it had never moved. The cursor hovered over **send**. “It is only thirty seconds,” a friend said. Tari closed the laptop, opened the description again and added: *The boat is moved by a hand outside the frame.* Then Tari sent the file. The screening had not happened.

**Task:** Write a 90–130-word note, or equivalent agreed response, for a fictional Screen Shelf editor. Compare M's public promise with N's one-person scene; identify makers/purposes; explain one stylistic choice and possible effect; use an exact phrase from each; state a condition and a missing practical detail; propose a more accurate headline or public sentence. An evidence-backed interpretation may vary. Choose a route from [Day 20](DAILY-CHOICES.md). Do not claim a screening occurred.

**Self-audit for both:** Name the source with each quoted detail. Replace universal claims about real people with a claim about the specific invented text. Mark one thing the source cannot tell you. Words such as `every`, `always`, `proved` or `guaranteed` need especially careful checking. Your teacher may allow more time after the seven-minute initial response.
