# Full text and tactile routes · five original A4 aids

The same-name SVG/PDF sheets are visual write-on layouts. Every instructional label, formula and caution is preserved here, in reading order. Colour and shape do not carry the only meaning. A learner may use Braille, enlarged text, AAC, sign, typed response, spoken words or labelled tactile cards; a supporter can move cards at the learner's direction. These routes are designs for access, **not** tested claims of equivalent outcomes or a finished embossed/Braille edition. Record support and ask the learner which method works.

## Wage-layers mat · Days 21–22

Title: **A shift is made of layers.** Read four numbered sections:

1. **Regular hours.** `regular hours × base rate per hour = regular gross amount`. Label hours and dollars/hour.
2. **Additional hours.** `base rate × stipulated multiplier = additional-hour rate`; then `additional hours × additional-hour rate = additional gross amount`. Apply a rate only to its stated hour band.
3. **Once-only amount.** Place a separately stated allowance or similar amount **once for the shift**, not once per hour unless the source explicitly says so.
4. **Model gross total and limit.** Add sections 1, 2 and 3. This is gross model pay, not take-home pay, legal overtime entitlement or proof of who made a whole project.

**Tactile route:** Lay four raised-edge, Braille/large-text numbered cards in sequence, then put differently labelled REGULAR HOURS, EXTRA HOURS, RATE MULTIPLIER and ONCE cards on their named steps. A textured card without a word/number label is insufficient. Add the three gross amounts only after each unit is spoken or shown.

## Base-comparison mat · Days 23 and 25

Title: **One gap, two denominators.** Four sections:

1. **Stated cost and sale price.** Copy the two amounts with currency and `per item` or `total` as the source uses them.
2. **Same dollar gap.** `sale price − stated cost = dollar gap` **before unknown other costs**.
3. **Two percentage measures.** `mark-up = gap ÷ COST × 100%`; `gross price margin = gap ÷ SALE PRICE × 100%`. Point to each denominator before dividing.
4. **Public wording boundary.** A gross gap is not automatically net profit or an allocation to a person/project; list missing expenses or distribution evidence.

**Tactile route:** Put a COST strip beside a SALE strip and a separate GAP strip; duplicate the GAP token into two labelled rows, one over COST and one over SALE. Use spoken/Braille denominator labels rather than colour alone. Keep UNKNOWN COSTS as a labelled token outside both rows.

## Change-ladder mat · Days 24 and 26

Title: **The return step changes base.** Four sections:

1. **Original base.** State starting amount and currency/unit.
2. **First change.** Calculate the given percentage of the **ORIGINAL BASE**; show dollar change and new amount.
3. **Return from the new base.** Calculate `dollar gap ÷ NEW BASE × 100%` to get the percentage needed to return.
4. **Check the words and crop.** Name a number or step hidden from the public text, test the repeated-percent shortcut numerically, and correct it.

**Tactile route:** Stack ORIGINAL, CHANGED and RETURN amount cards vertically with two separate RATE cards beside the relevant starting amounts. Move a labelled dollar-gap token between the steps; do not reuse the first percentage label as if the bases were equal. The [offline lab](../interactive/change-base-lab.html) has a complete [paper route](../interactive/TEXT-ROUTE.md).

## Currency-direction mat · Day 27

Title: **Currency direction matters.** Four sections:

1. **Given rate.** State `AUD $1 = USD $[given]`; this is an invented classroom rate, not a real quote.
2. **AUD to USD.** `AUD amount × USD per AUD = USD amount`.
3. **USD to AUD.** `USD amount ÷ USD per AUD = AUD amount`.
4. **Reverse check and unknown.** Check by reversing the arrow. Keep real rate, fees and spread unknown; never simply swap a currency symbol.

**Tactile route:** Use AUD and USD Braille/large-text unit cards on opposite ends of a raised arrow. Place an `×` token for AUD→USD and a `÷` token for USD→AUD. Speak the rate's unit `USD per AUD` each time. The two currencies must remain named even when both use a dollar sign.

## Share-measures mat · Days 28–30

Title: **Three share measures are different.** Four sections:

1. **Label the stated data.** Separate price per share, annual earnings per share, annual dividend per share, and number of shares if supplied.
2. **P/E is a ratio.** `price per share ÷ annual earnings per share`. It is not a percentage or a forecast.
3. **Dividend yield is a percent.** `annual dividend per share ÷ price per share ×100%`, for the stipulated data period.
4. **Portfolio and future limit.** If a count is given, `dividend per share × number of shares = model annual dividend dollars`. The arithmetic does not promise a future payment or recommend a purchase.

**Tactile route:** Put PRICE, EARNINGS and DIVIDEND cards in separate labelled sleeves, each marked `per share`; add a SHARES-COUNT card only for portfolio dollars. Build P/E and YIELD quotients on different tactile rows, with a distinct RATIO versus PERCENT label. Keep FUTURE UNKNOWN at the end.
