# Learner desk · source to claim

Use this page with the [short historical source dossier](SOURCE-CARDS.md). A, B, C and D contain brief period words. E is a later archive interpretation. All text is available to hear read aloud; you can keep this transcript in view. Your answer can be spoken, typed, handwritten, drawn as labelled boxes, or made with AAC. Whichever route you use, include the **same** historical reasoning: a source ID, date or kind, the evidence, your claim, and a limit. You do not need to tell anyone your own or your family's history.

**Reusable evidence card**

- My question: …
- Source ID / maker / date / kind: …
- Words or fact in the card: …
- This supports the narrow claim that …
- It does **not** show …; another useful source would be …

| Day | Keepable learner evidence | Ask yourself before submitting |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Two questions for A: one answerable from A, one needing a different source; one phrase marked. | Did I answer only the one A can address? |
| 2 | A and B source-purpose notes: maker, audience, one useful claim and one limit each. | Did I make Abigail Adams represent all women? |
| 3 | Two-source historical tension using A and B, with E labelled as later interpretation. | Is “the Congress said” different from “everyone experienced”? |
| 4 | Four-event timeline: 1776 Declaration, 1777 Articles adopted, 1781 Articles fully ratified, 1783 Treaty. Add a bounded change claim. | Have I kept adoption and ratification apart? |
| 5 | Fresh Check A: source details, one defensible claim, one limit, one next source. | Did I turn a request to a king into proof of success or unanimity? |
| 6 | C claim/evidence/limit and a distinction between state powers and personal liberty. | Did I explain *whose* sovereignty Article II discusses? |
| 7 | Compare A (declared independence) and D (British recognition), with a limit about individual rights. | Did I claim a diplomatic treaty changed everyone's life equally? |
| 8 | A research question using E as modern commentary, A/B as period sources and one planned missing voice. | Is E a later reading, not an eyewitness? |
| 9 | A short argued paragraph or equivalent map/recording: three period source IDs, dates, a counterpoint and one limit. | Does each big claim have its own source? |
| 10 | Fresh Check B: G and H as different source kinds, a response to the “everyone gained freedom” claim, and a limit for each. | Did I keep the petitioners' request and Peter Nelson's experience distinct? |

**If a source feels heavy:** ask for a pause or take the equivalent source-sorting task. You may discuss the evidence without acting as any historical person. Feedback is about the source reasoning shown, not identity or disclosure.
