# Year 11 Music · Queensland opening fortnight

Ten original 25-minute starts for **Unit 1: Designs** in the current [QCAA Music General senior syllabus 2025 v1.3](https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/downloads/senior-qce/syllabuses/snr_music_25_syll.pdf), January 2026. Unit 1 has one **Area of study: Designs**, not a “Topic 1.” This is **250 minutes** of a notional 55-hour unit. It is not a whole unit, a repertoire survey, a completed composition or performance program, or a school assessment instrument.

Start with the [ten teacher scripts](LESSONS.md). [Files A–F](SCORE-CARDS.md) are original tiny scores; [G and H](STUDENT-CHECKS.md) are fresh public check stimuli. The [learner desk](LEARNER.md), [three participation routes per day](DAILY-CHOICES.md), [two worked extra swaps per day](DAILY-EXTRAS.md), [context bridge bank](EXAMPLE-BANK.md), and [spoken or quiet prompts](SPOKEN-PROMPTS.md) help a teacher run and adjust the sequence. Use the separate [worked feedback key](teacher/ANSWER-AND-NEXT.md) after first responses.

Six original A4 [beat-grid sheets](print/TEXT-ALTERNATIVES.md) plus two fresh check sheets are supplied as SVG and searchable PDF. The grid is an exact **custom timed notation**: each narrow cell equals half a quarter-note beat, with scientific pitch labels, durations and rests. It is not a conventional staff score. Every sheet has exact text and tactile construction directions. Eight [original simple WAV tones](audio/ASSET-INDEX.md) are optional demonstrations. **No device, instrument, internet connection, solo singing, recording or amplification is required.** A learner can speak pitch names, tap onset times, point to raised blocks or analyse the exact written score. These routes support the same evidence-led design decisions; teachers should not claim that silent and audible experiences are identical.

The school must add varied repertoire and genre/style contexts, more advanced pitch/harmony, sustained composing and performing, access planning and its own assessment. Nothing here copies a song, artist recording, score, or First Nations music. No cultural origin or style is asserted for these new miniatures. The pack has not been classroom piloted, translated, endorsed by QCAA, or reviewed by First Nations cultural authorities.
