# Year 11 Specialist Mathematics · Queensland opening fortnight

Ten original, 25-minute sessions for the **beginning** of Unit 1 Topic 1, *Combinatorics*. The current [QCAA Specialist Mathematics General senior syllabus 2025 v1.4](https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/downloads/senior-qce/syllabuses/snr_maths_specialist_25_syll.pdf), March 2026, gives **Introduction to counting techniques (4 hours)** before **Permutations and combinations (8 hours)** on printed pp 16–17. This pack spends 250 minutes on the first subtopic: two- and three-set inclusion–exclusion, addition and multiplication principles, method choice and checking. The ten 25-minute sessions total **4 hours 10 minutes**, a timetable-shaped opening slice slightly beyond the notional four hours. It does **not** teach the 8-hour second subtopic or claim complete Topic 1, Unit 1 (55 hours), Year 11 or Year 12 coverage. The next curriculum work is permutations and combinations, including restrictions and probability applications.

[Day 5 and Day 10](STUDENT-CHECKS.md) use fresh public files G/H/I, with the [teacher key](teacher/ANSWER-AND-NEXT.md) separate. These public checks are formative and **not secure or formal QCAA school assessment instruments**. Schools decide their actual assessments under the syllabus; QCAA does not endorse this pack.

Six original A4 aids are in [SVG, searchable PDF and exact text/tactile form](print/TEXT-ALTERNATIVES.md). Each asks for a reason, not just a formula. Data, people and settings are fictional; no learner needs to reveal identity, diagnoses or family life. Visual, oral, written, movement and quiet-text paths preserve the same mathematical target without promising that a “learning style” predicts achievement. No translated or culturally specific version is claimed; community review is needed before using local language or cultural material.
