# SubjectNest Year 12 — Queensland General opening fortnight

**Version:** v0.1 draft, 29 September 2026. **Review:** experienced senior English and General Mathematics teachers, QCAA/local school coordinator, accessibility/EAL/D and cultural reviewers pending. This pack is a **Queensland General senior** opening practice sequence. It uses the directly checked [QCAA English General 2025 v1.3 syllabus](https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/downloads/senior-qce/syllabuses/snr_english_25_syll.pdf) and [QCAA General Mathematics 2025 v1.3 syllabus](https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/downloads/senior-qce/syllabuses/snr_maths_general_25_syll.pdf). It makes **no national ACARA Year 12 alignment claim**. Confirm the school’s actual cohort, subject choices, unit start, assessment schedule and approved texts before teaching.

## Start with the class you have

1. Check subject enrolments: **General Mathematics** differs from Mathematical Methods and Essential Mathematics; **English General** differs from Essential English and EAL. The school must map its actual Units 3 and 4, approved calculator/software, assessment calendar, reasonable adjustments and text/film permissions. QCAA says General units are notionally 55 hours each and Units 3–4 form a summative pair; this starter does not replace those hours or school assessment instruments.
2. Choose the school’s prescribed texts from the [QCAA 2026–2029 list](https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/downloads/senior-qce/english/snr_english_eal_prescribed_texts_list_2026-29.pdf) as part of the **full** course. Across Units 3–4, the syllabus requires at least four list texts across specified categories and Unit 3 includes media texts. Our original short text pair builds an analysis routine and may sit beside those selected texts; it does not satisfy the list requirement by itself. Check author/cultural rights, student sensitivities and the current cohort’s text registration.
3. For each opening day, teach one 25-minute English block and one 25-minute maths block. The optional 35-minute evidence studio extends comparison and data communication; it is not a replacement for another subject. A senior school period may need additional reading, consolidation and teacher-selected work. Use the embedded checks and the [separate student assessments](english/term-1/weeks-01-02/student-assessment.md) and [maths assessment](mathematics/term-1/weeks-01-02/student-assessment.md) to choose next instruction, not to award QCAA marks.
4. Print the original low-ink SVG or PNG aids with their text alternatives. Offer adjustable text, screen reader/teacher read-aloud, tactile/large-print tables and graphs, keyboard, sign/AAC, speech or learner-directed scribing. Record **content prompts separately from access support**, and distinguish independent reading of English texts from analysis after a read-aloud. Do not assign a fixed learning style to a learner.

All people, proposals, numbers and media positions in this pack are fictional classroom examples. No student needs to disclose family finances, disability, cultural identity, transport, work or home conditions. No translation or local First Nations story is fabricated. Any translation needs a named language variety, qualified reviewer and school process. Store any student evidence privately under school policy.

## Rights and source boundary

The two direct QCAA syllabus PDFs, the [General Mathematics subject page](https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/senior-subjects/syllabuses/mathematics/general-mathematics) and QCAA's [senior resource search](https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/senior-subjects/syllabus-implementation/senior-syllabus-resource-search) were checked on 29 September 2026 for v1.3 documents. Details, limitations and an independent desk walkthrough are in the [source/QA ledger](source-and-qa.md).
