# Science learner cards · Year 2 Weeks 1–2

Choose one card with your educator. You may speak, point, draw, sign, type, use AAC or direct an adult to move paper for you. You may choose a quiet route. Say which parts you **saw or tried** and which you only **predict**. Use the blank [print mat](../print/science-aid.svg) or [text mat](../print/TEXT-ALTERNATIVES.md). There are no answer keys on this page.

## Day 1 · Folded sleeve

You have a flat paper rectangle and a folded paper sleeve. **Predict:** what might happen when the sleeve opens? **Try:** open/fold once if you want. **Tell:** what changed in shape? What material is each piece made of?

## Day 2 · Twisted label

Look at two same-size paper strips. Leave A flat; twist B gently once. **Draw or label** what each looks like. What action was different? What would you keep the same for a fair comparison?

## Day 3 · Four action cards

Sort these captions: **folded paper**, **paper twisted once**, **paper torn into two pieces**, **paper untouched**. Which show an action that changed shape? Choose one caption and underline the word that tells you the action.

## Day 4 · Paper pocket

Look at a flat paper square and a pocket folded from similar paper. **Predict** whether one light paper note could sit inside. If your teacher tests it, record what happened here: ______. What does this one test leave unknown?

## Day 5 · New band

**Predict** what bending a paper band into a loop may change. If you or your adult bends it, show **before → after** and describe what you observed. Did your prediction match? What is the band made of now?

## Day 6 · Paper flap

Watch a still paper flap. **Predict** what a gentle flick may do. If a demonstration happens, mark what you **saw**: ______ and, only if you chose to listen, what you **heard**: ______. If no demonstration happened, write **model only**.

## Day 7 · Tap and rub

Same paper card; two actions: gentle **tap** and gentle **rub**. Predict a difference. With agreement, test or watch. Mark **action / movement / sound reported** for each. You may write **not heard**. What did you keep the same?

## Day 8 · Invented practice notes

These are **made-up notes for sorting**, not observations from your class:

- A: flap moved; someone reported a rustle.
- B: card stayed still; no sound was reported.
- C: card moved; the listener wrote “not heard”.

Put A, B and C on a **movement seen / sound reported** table. Which note would you want to check again? Why?

## Day 9 · Accessible signal

In an **invented** library, a worker wants a quiet way to show that books are ready. Use a labelled observation from Day 7 or the **invented** Day 8 notes to make a careful prediction. Draw or name one gentle paper sound action and one visible signal. What would you need to test before saying either worked for another person?

## Day 10 · New paper cover

**Predict** what a gentle tap might do to a loose paper cover on a box. If a safe demonstration happens, record the action, any movement and any sound you choose to report. Compare with your prediction. Give one question for another trial. A drawing alone is a prediction task.
