# Learner checks · open only on Day 15 or Day 20

Your teacher may read the words. You may use a counter, paper place cards, a drawing, speech, typing, AAC or a person who moves pieces exactly as you direct. Show enough of your reasoning for someone else to check it. These are new maps and numbers. The adult records any help they give.

## Day 15 · Unseen makers' fair

Map B is a **made-up** fair seen from above. Hold the title at top. Columns A–E go left to right; rows 1–5 top to bottom. Named cells are landmarks; `open` means an unlabelled space. “Directly” means one adjacent cell away. You may use [the A4 Map B sheet](print/held-out-map-b.pdf) or its [complete text/tactile version](print/held-out-map-b-text.md) if it helps you see or mark the positions.

1. **Interpret:** What is the full cell label for **demo**? Show how the row and column meet.
2. **Relate:** Describe where **art table** is relative to **book stall**. Are they *directly* next to each other? Explain.
3. **Create:** On a **new 3 × 3 grid** labelled A–C and 1–3, place **rest in centre**, **water directly above rest**, and **art directly right of rest**. Draw/place the labels and make a key another person can read.
4. **Repair:** A note says, “Quiet area A2 is right of demo C2.” Test the note against Map B. Keep the first note visible and write a correct relation, naming the same reference place.

## Day 20 · Unseen stock and calculation

`TT` is ten-thousands, `Th` thousands, `H` hundreds, `T` tens and `O` ones. A place with zero groups still keeps its place in the usual numeral. Use cards or a drawing if helpful.

1. **Represent:** A fictional stock card reads **41 205**. Read it and show each of its five usual place groups, including the zero place.
2. **Rename:** Open **one ten-thousand** in 41 205 into thousands. Record the new grouping and an addition sentence to prove the total stayed 41 205.
3. **Order:** Which is greater, **41 205** or **41 250**? Name the first place where the digits differ.
4. **Regroup and check:** A fictional display had **624** blank cards and used **187**. How many remain? Show a place-value exchange or a count-up path, name the unit, and check with addition.

Before handing in, you may trace every map relation or count each group again. A different answer from a neighbour is a reason to check your own model, not a reason to copy theirs.
