# Complete text and tactile route · exhibit rail aid

The [original A4 SVG](exhibit-rail.svg) and [PDF](exhibit-rail.pdf) are blank scaffolds, with no hidden answer. Colour only helps scanning; text names every part. An adult may read the prompts, make raised paper dividers or put a marker exactly where a child directs. The child's mathematical decision must remain theirs.

**Top:** “SubjectNest / Year 4 / Weeks 3–4. A small exhibit others can use. Choose a safe fictional context. Keep the whole and gap size clear.”

**0–1 number rail:** A horizontal line begins at **0** on the left and ends at **1** on the right. There are exactly **ten equal spaces** and eleven tick positions. From left to right the tick positions are: `0`, blank, blank, blank, blank, blank, blank, blank, blank, blank, `1`. The printed instruction is “Place a broad marker; name the whole, endpoints and gap size.” To build tactilely, join ten broad equal-length cards edge-to-edge, mark each boundary with a raised line, then label the first and last boundary 0 and 1. For a hundredth such as 0.65, use the **separate** 0.60–0.70 ten-gap zoom described in the lesson; this coarse sheet does not claim exact hundredth placement.

**Equal-whole row:** Five empty rectangles of exactly the same width appear left to right, with no shading. Together they are **one whole**. The prompt reads “Mark your chosen share, then use a matching whole to show tenths.” Below are blanks: “The same whole in tenths: __ / 10”, “Decimal: ______”, and “My reason:”. Tactilely, place five same-size cards touching in a row, with the same total length as a ten-part strip made of ten smaller equal cards. Do not compare strips of different total lengths as if they were one whole.

**Three boxes:** An empty box labelled **SOURCE / TEXT PURPOSE**, one labelled **WHAT THE MODEL SHOWS**, and one labelled **WHAT IT CANNOT SHOW / VISITOR QUESTION**. Use three raised-outline paper pockets or spoken prompts in that order. The last box is deliberately present so a paper position is not misreported as a measured physical route or a real person's preference.
