# Mathematics, Term 1 Weeks 1–2 — tenths to hundredths

**Version:** v0.1, 29 September 2026. **Status:** educator, local-syllabus and accessibility review pending. [Ten 25-minute lessons](lessons.md), [low-ink/text aids](aids.md), an original [A4 SVG grid](decimal-grid.svg) with [PNG preview](decimal-grid.png), and a [keyed formative check](assessment.md). This first fortnight develops decimal place value from **one equal whole** through tenths and hundredths, with the link 1/10 = 10/100 = 0.1 = 0.10. It does not teach all Year 4 number content.

**Prepare:** One large 10-strip and 10×10 grid per learner or pair, a whiteboard/marker, 0–2 number line, digit cards, and optional large tactile cells. Verify a child's grasp of “whole” and **equal parts** before using notation. The same physical whole must remain fixed when comparing shaded parts; two differently sized grids are not comparable by raw shaded count. Use the [context cards](aids.md#original-context-cards) as original fictional diagrams, never as measured data. The SVG has a text alternative in [aids](aids.md); print at actual size or recreate accessibly. Children can respond by shading, selecting cards, moving pieces, speech, sign, AAC, typing or directing an adult. Record prompts and response mode, not manipulation speed.

**National curriculum:** AC9M4N01 requires recognising/extending place value to tenths and hundredths and decimal notation; AC9M4N03 includes equivalent fraction representations with related denominators and connections to decimal notation. This pack makes **partial** links. Exact codes checked against the [official ACARA v9 download](https://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/downloads), retrieved 29 September 2026, workbook SHA-256 `db446882d2c00cf7c085a03e250e2442fda6c44011fc114680c46c1dc7a822c3`. Check the school's current state/local syllabus before use. [AERO explicit instruction](https://www.edresearch.edu.au/guides-resources/practice-guides/explicit-instruction-practice-guide-full-publication) supports model–guided–independent response structure, without validating this particular sequence.
