# Text and tactile alternatives to the A4 aids

All four sheets are original. Their layout is optional; a teacher may read the prompts aloud, enlarge them, use raised cards, or type into a plain document. The SVG files include titles and descriptions; PDFs are visual print copies and are **not tagged PDFs**. Use this text for screen readers. Tactile options use ordinary paper, card, string or objects already available; no specialist purchase is required.

## Inquiry and evidence mat
1. Question or decision.
2. What I predict or think before checking.
3. What I actually noticed, measured, heard from a source, or read in a source. Include when/where if known.
4. Claim, supporting evidence and uncertainty. Sentence frame: “I observed/read … So I think … I still need …”
**Tactile:** four separate large cards arranged top to bottom, with one, two, three and four raised dots. Move a marker as each stage is completed. For Science, distinguish the *model* from a real-world observation; for HASS, record a source’s maker and purpose.

## Observed action card (staff)
Fields: learner/group code; day; subject/task; specific action seen/heard; artefact made/shown; learner explanation/question; evidence status (observed, work seen, plan only, not assessed); next teaching move; access route. Never write a diagnosis or private family detail on the card. **Tactile:** four status cards with distinct corners or raised dot counts; staff records the selected word in a secure school system.

## Design and code mat
**Design side:** user → need → criterion → trial. Write who uses it and for what; two ideas/materials and why; a safe test that can actually be done. **Digital side:** input → if/else decision → repeat → output. Record test case, actual output and change. Tick **run and observed** only after a program ran in an approved environment; otherwise tick **paper trace only**. **Tactile:** four arrow-linked cards plus branch cards. This supports planning and tracing; it does not itself prove program implementation.

## Arts process card
1. My idea and intended audience.
2. Element I changed (space, time, sound, image, texture or something else relevant).
3. What I actually made or performed.
4. What a willing viewer/listener noticed. Mark performed/presented, work made or plan only. Write one possible next change. **Tactile:** four numbered cards or objects with distinct textures. For a dance, drama or music performance, teacher observation of an accessible live action is needed; a textual description alone remains planning or reflection.
