# English, Term 1 Weeks 1–2 — what a claim shows

**Version:** v0.1, 29 September 2026. **Status:** educator, local-syllabus, accessibility and EAL/D review pending. [Ten 25-minute lessons](lessons.md), [original fictional source cards and text aids](aids.md), an original [printable advert SVG](fictional-notebook-ad.svg) with [PNG preview](fictional-notebook-ad.png), and [keyed formative assessment](assessment.md). This is an opening sequence on source, fact/opinion, bias and audience. It does **not** replace varied literature, independent reading, spelling, oral language or the full Year 6 English program.

**Prepare:** Read the original [source packet](aids.md) before class. Every advert/product/data point is **invented for teaching**; no real brand or recommendation is present. Keep Card D sealed for transfer. Print the SVG or use its exact plain-text alternative. Ask children to locate a claim, evidence and missing information; an opinion can be reasonable without becoming an observed fact. A visual design can draw attention without proving the claim. Provide accessible text, large print, screen reader, read-aloud, tactile emphasis, AAC/sign discussion and adult transcription as needed; record whether comprehension followed independent reading or a read-aloud. Protect any child from disclosing family spending or product access.

**National links:** AC9E6LA02 (objective/subjective language and bias); AC9E6LA07 (images, figures, tables and diagrams in meaning); AC9E6LY01 (media texts/context); AC9E6LY03 (text structures/language features for purpose/audience); AC9E6LY04 (navigate/read for purpose); AC9E6LY05 (compare content and infer); AC9E6LY06 (plan/create/edit/publish). These are **partial** links. Exact Year 6 records checked in the [official ACARA v9 download](https://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/downloads), retrieved 29 September 2026, workbook SHA-256 `db446882d2c00cf7c085a03e250e2442fda6c44011fc114680c46c1dc7a822c3`.
