# Materials, access and setup

Use paper, pencil, ruler and up to 36 **large** counters, tiles, sticky notes or drawn cells. Small loose items may be unsuitable for some groups; offer a printed/grid, magnetic large pieces, spoken factor pairs or a tactile card instead. The activities are mathematical representations, not instructions to change real rooms, repair equipment, spend money, use food, or collect personal data.

The three original one-page A4 aids can be printed or used on screen: [factor-array lab](print/factor-array-lab.pdf), [equal-whole fraction bars](print/equal-whole-bars.pdf) and [0–1/0–2 fraction lines](print/fraction-lines.pdf). SVG versions and **complete text/tactile routes** are in the [alternatives file](print/TEXT-ALTERNATIVES.md). No colour meaning is required. Use dark large markers, enlarge as needed and let a learner state a factor pair or tick count if drawing is a barrier. Record the route used.

**Before Day 11:** Prepare cards `1,2,12,16` and example arrays. Before Day 15, keep its fresh numbers sealed from learners. **Before Day 16:** Prepare same-length unit strips divided into 2, 3, 4 and 12 equal parts. Check every strip has identical whole length; do not compare pieces from unequal wholes. Before Day 20, keep the held-out fraction pair and 24-tile context sealed. Read aloud from a check neutrally; supplying an answer or strategic hint changes the evidence.

**Accessibility:** A raised straight line with 12 equally spaced notches can replace a visual 0–1 line. For 0–2, use 24 equal notches with a distinct label at notch 12. Large factor cards can replace small counters. Screen reader users get the complete ordered wording and spatial relations in the text alternative. Speech, sign/AAC, pointing to labelled cards, typing, drawing or child-directed adult transcription are valid ways to express the same mathematical reason. Do not infer ability, diagnosis or a permanent “learning style” from a mode choice.
