# Learner choice page · optional Year 8 blocks

Your teacher chooses one 12-minute subject block. Every invented number, map, device, organisation and person is practice material. You may work with large cards, raised marks, screen-reader text, drawing, typing, speech, sign, AAC or exact-word transcription; choose a route and change it if needed. Ask for quiet/private presentation, processing time and safe movement or a directing role. A plan, model, performance and real observation show different things. Do not share personal finances, health, identity, messages, images or family details. Your teacher gives new checks only on Days 15 and 20.

## Day 11

- **Science:** Compare labelled plant- and animal-cell drawings. Which features are on both, which differ, and what might a flat model miss?
- **HASS:** On a *made-up* river valley, draw where loose sediment could move and settle. Ask what you would measure in a real place.
- **HPE:** Choose a safe seated or standing paper-target placement. Try a closer/further target only if permitted; describe the observed change or your proposed strategy.
- **Technologies:** Define a paper display tray for 12 replica cards, each 10×7 cm. List at least two measurements or user needs before choosing material.
- **Arts:** Create an original eight-count “search, find, stop” pathway with straight, curved and paused moments. Perform only if comfortable and safe.

## Day 12

- **Science:** Order `muscle cell → muscle tissue → stomach wall → digestive system`. Explain why one cell is not an organ.
- **HASS:** Fictional Town L changes 1,000→1,300 and M 1,000→1,050. Compare increases and name missing information before giving a cause.
- **HPE:** Audit the *invented* slogan “One stretch solves every stress!” supported by one person's one-time report. Rewrite its claim carefully.
- **Technologies:** Propose a controlled comparison for paper and cardboard strips. If no safe test happens, write `not observed` rather than a result.
- **Arts:** Rehearse your original eight-count pathway with different timing. Explain which moment the new timing draws attention to.

## Day 13

- **Science:** Match apart, together and slide-past arrows to the three plate-boundary types. Ask what evidence a real location would need.
- **HASS:** A British Library catalogue describes the Articles of the Barons submitted to King John in 1215. Separate the old document from the modern description; name a missing viewpoint.
- **HPE:** In a fictional rehearsal, someone asks to record a teammate's voice. Write a respectful request, refusal and non-recorded alternative; use no device.
- **Technologies:** Sketch two tray layouts for 12 cards. Label dimensions and the one feature changed between versions.
- **Arts:** Devise a brief fictional scene: a gallery steward finds a blank label before opening. Show a goal, obstacle and action.

## Day 14

- **Science:** Arrange two possible rock-cycle paths using sediments, rock types and process arrows. A card sort is not identification of a real rock.
- **HASS:** Does one document from barons to a king tell us every resident's view? Name what it helps investigate and what remains missing.
- **HPE:** Propose one rule or equipment change for a cooperative soft-disc game. If you play, record who could take part without guessing anyone's needs.
- **Technologies:** Agree criteria for two tray ideas, including a paper-use question. Score only features you measured or can actually see; write `unknown` elsewhere.
- **Arts:** Change one line or action in the fictional gallery scene after a new clue, and show before/after for a willing audience.

## Day 15

- **Science, HASS, HPE, Technologies, Arts:** Your teacher will give a **new** subject-specific case. Give your first response independently in an access mode you choose. Show where an idea came from; use `unknown` when evidence is missing. Compare routes and feedback only **after** the first response has been collected.

## Day 16

- **Science:** For a *drawn* compressed spring and moving paper flag, tell a stored-to-moving energy story and one thing the storyboard cannot measure.
- **HASS:** Sort Australian sources of law by institution using the supplied PEO-backed cards. Keep a school rule distinct from a statute.
- **HPE:** A fictional game rule is disputed. Plan a pause phrase and a specific safe step to check the rule; no personal conflict story is needed.
- **Technologies:** Plot sample integers `0, 800, -800, 0` in order. Explain why four samples are not the entire original WAV cue.
- **Arts:** Arrange three original drawings (closed gate, arrow, clear path) into a paper media story. Add a caption and identify what is left outside a frame.

## Day 17

- **Science:** Sort original circle models into element, compound and mixture candidates. Look for repeated joined units, then say what a real sample would require.
- **HASS:** Compare a political-party member and an independent MP using the official fact card. Do not infer either person's vote or your classmate's politics.
- **HPE:** Choose an opt-in seated or standing paper-ball strategy. Vary time or target distance safely; record what was actually tried.
- **Technologies:** Use bit weights `8, 4, 2, 1`. Encode 13 and decode `1010`; explain why place value matters.
- **Arts:** Notate a new eight-box rhythm with at least two rests and a loud/soft choice. Perform gently or direct a performer if willing.

## Day 18

- **Science:** Sort supplied paper-tearing, ice-melting and fictional laboratory record cards. What evidence would show a new substance rather than only a new appearance?
- **HASS:** In a *made-up* market, price changes $4→$5 and orders 30→24. State the observed changes and two missing factors before claiming cause.
- **HPE:** On an *invented* recreation-space map, propose questions for a privacy-respecting access review. Map symbols do not prove actual access.
- **Technologies:** Trace nested pseudocode: score ≥80 checks maintenance first; otherwise score ≥40 is WATCH; lower is OK. Mark high+maintenance for recheck.
- **Arts:** Revise your original rhythm with a second layer entering later. Record what you changed and any feedback you actually received.

## Day 19

- **Science:** For fictional readings 8, 9, 41, 8, mark the unusual value and the note that the sensor moved before it. Plan a repeat; do not silently erase it.
- **HASS:** Rebalance a *fictional* $60 club plan: $25 board, $18 paper, $12 access print, $5 reserve, then consider a $10 sign. Show a trade-off without discussing home money.
- **HPE:** For a fictional message pressuring someone to share a private photo, choose a safe trusted-adult/school help route. Do not forward images or tell a personal story.
- **Technologies:** Run or inspect the [offline starter](code/light_sample_flag.py). Its high+maintenance branch is wrong; identify the single return label to fix. A paper trace is valid reasoning, not proof of execution.
- **Arts:** Make two original thick/thin line studies of an invented telescope silhouette. Choose what the eye should notice first.

## Day 20

- **Science, HASS, HPE, Technologies, Arts:** A second **new** subject-specific check comes from your teacher. Respond first on your own. Label a model, plan, action and observation accurately. Keep your response private; afterwards your teacher may offer a new route to practise the part you want to improve.
