Goal: connect a numeral, a chart/line position and two equal concrete representations for a number at most 120. Prepare: square, strips, singles, H/T/O mat, chart, Day 29 cards.
- Notice, 3: Display 108 as one hundred + eight ones and ten strips + eight ones. Ask what is different and what amount is unchanged.
- Model, 5: Choose 116. Show 100 + 10 + 6, then 11 tens + 6 ones. Place 116 six equal steps after 110. Ask what each digit records in the standard bundled model.
- Guided, 8: Cards A/B show 104 and 118. Pairs build each in a hundred-based and all-ten-strips model, select its numeral and chart location, then order the two. Use the audit rule: the square replaces ten strips.
- Independent, 6: Card C names 120. Learner chooses a hundred and two strips or twelve strips, sketches/points to its chart cell, then explains why there are zero loose ones. Capture a second route only if independent time remains.
- Exit, 3: Show one hundred + one ten + six ones and ask for another equal form. Key: 116 and eleven tens + six ones. If a learner adds the square and ten replacement strips, remove the duplicate and recount.
