The A4 landscape visual has three rows of ten labelled cells and one equally spaced line. It is a navigational and comparison aid, not a replacement for counting verified groups or a held-out independent check.

Each cell is one more than the cell immediately before it in reading order. The end of each row is 100, 110, or 120. Moving down one row in the same column adds ten. The line begins at 90 and ends at 120; every neighbouring tick is one whole number apart. The longer, labelled ticks are 90, 100, 110 and 120. The ten short intervals between 100 and 110 contain nine interior whole-number ticks, 101 through 109. A tactile version may use 31 equally spaced raised marks, with a distinct texture at 90, 100, 110 and 120. Read the labels aloud only when the task permits that access support.
The bottom reminder says 10 ones = 1 ten; 10 tens = 1 hundred; 120 = 100 + 20 = 12 tens. To make 120, count a hundred square or its ten replacement strips, plus two further strips. Do not count both the square and those same ten strips. On a HUNDREDS/TENS/ONES mat, 103 is one hundred, zero separate tens and three loose ones; this does not mean 103 contains no groups of ten.
How to use without sight: an adult can place a marker under the learner's direction on the tactile sequence, announce the starting labelled decade and read each requested step. For a quantity target, offer audited ten-strips and a hundred bundle with distinguishable textures. If an adult chooses a position or completes an exchange for the learner, record that mathematical assistance rather than treating it as independent evidence.
