QCAA says Unit 1 learning should use current economic contexts. The two official sources below were opened and cross-checked 29 September 2026. They are a small real-data encounter, not an economic-system comparison and not a substitute for continued current-context teaching. Before class, check the same original page for a revision or newer release; replace the snapshot when it is no longer current. Keep the reported statistic separate from Card A's fictional production pairs.

Capsule A · Australian labour-market data

The Australian Bureau of Statistics, Labour Force, Australia, reference period August 2026 was released 24 September 2026. In the release's trend series, the August 2026 unemployment rate is 4.6%. The ABS also reports a seasonally adjusted 4.6%, but cautions about possible effects of an August survey-method change on short-term seasonally adjusted movements and recommends trend data for the underlying labour-market behaviour. Ask: “Does this national survey number tell us why Card A's fictional (2,6) lies inside a model frontier?” No. The statistics concern people and survey definitions; Card A's fictional output pairs concern a single made-up studio. Neither identifies the other's cause.

Capsule B · Productivity and a model limit

The Productivity Commission, Productivity update — September 2026 was published 3 September 2026, drawing on the ABS June-quarter 2026 national accounts. It reports that in the June 2026 quarter, Australian output and hours worked each rose 0.4%, leaving measured labour-productivity growth flat for that quarter. Ask: “Does Card E's fictional one-point workshop trial prove that this national productivity figure changed?” No. The units, population, period and evidence differ. An improvement in one model's possible output is a concept; the Commission reports aggregate measured results. The report does not supply Card E's training cost or a new complete frontier.

Five-minute classroom move

Show one capsule's publisher, exact title, release date, reference period, statistic and caveat. Learners identify what is reported, what is inferred, and what Card A/E cannot establish. Then ask for a real resource-choice question the source motivates, but label any proposed alternative as a question/hypothesis, not a sourced fact. The source alone does not justify a policy recommendation or rank a country's economic system. A teacher can substitute a local council's dated decision record or another ABS release after checking definitions and revisions.

Refresh record for a future class

Record before class Teacher entry
Publisher, exact title and live link ______
Publication/revision date and date accessed ______
One short, accurately attributed observation (with unit and period) ______
What is scarce, and who decides? ______
One plausible alternative, explicitly identified as a model rather than a reported fact ______
What the source does not establish ______

For any claim about government choices or another country, obtain its official source and a suitable second perspective; keep value judgments open. Do not ask students to bring private household budgets or personal financial facts.

If the live source is inaccessible or cannot be verified, teach the fictional modelling practice but record the current-context handoff as outstanding. Do not describe this pack as fully meeting Unit 1.
