Teacher copy: This page may include teaching prompts or answer keys. Answer keys in this public library can be viewed by anyone. Give learners a clean prompt, use checks as formative evidence, and change a case locally when prior access matters.

Keep separate from learner cards. This studio supports source and inference habits in two subjects. No extra QCAA unit, IA instrument or standard is created. The fictional cards are a safe common context, not a real policy dossier.

Studio day Keyed observation Immediate next move
1 A's apprentice is an illustrative person, B's bus time is an in-story assertion, 12 is a fictional table count. None is verified local evidence. Put “example / claim / count” under three cards, then reclassify.
2 Card A row percentages are 60% morning quiet and 30% afternoon quiet, denominators 20 visits each; no cause is shown. Ask “of which visits?” before a number enters a public sentence.
3 Both options promise paid staffing. P needs transport and evening-use evidence; Q needs Saturday-use and access evidence. No winner follows from supplied data. Change an asserted benefit into a testable question.
4 A neutral item offers multiple, none and other; paper/offline access is explicit; no private identity question. Existing-room responses miss non-users. Rewrite the leading clause and add “none”.
5 A credible brief names one exact number, attributes one text position, and names an unknown. Return only the first sentence that confuses a text claim with data.
6 Card B points represent paired hour/visit counts, not unique people, return travel or actual reading. Label each axis and ask “which variable measures travel?”
7 A caption may say positive, roughly linear, strong within six invented weekends; “always” is false. Compare the downward local steps at x=2→3 and 4→5.
8 r ≈ +0.9189 measures strong positive linear association; it says nothing about cause or visitor identities. Replace “proof” with an exact observation and a study question.
9 R² ≈ 0.8444 describes about 84.4% of observed y variation accounted for by a straight-line relation with x in the six toy pairs. Ask what is varying and whether the sentence says “caused”.
10 A careful notice distinguishes fictional Text C's 8/10 convenience poll from numerical Card C's six paired observations, and uses an accessible comment route. Highlight each figure with its source; delete or qualify an unowned claim.

Teacher/student/funder reality check

Teacher: The optional studio can be run without buying an image, worksheet or survey platform. It needs Texts A/B, cards, a calculator/spreadsheet for later days, a safe return route for fictional feedback and access supports. Day 10 must follow the two subject checks. The 35-minute studio does not fill the rest of a senior timetable.

Student: A learner may choose written, spoken, AAC, private or tactile routes. No personal transport or family account is needed. A strong answer may recommend no immediate change while proposing evidence to gather. The headline test should feel like public reasoning, not a trap about identity.

Funder: The materials are original and freely reusable under CC BY 4.0. The scenario deliberately makes limits visible. This pack has not been trialled in a classroom or reviewed by QCAA and does not demonstrate achievement gains.
