These new fictional sources differ from the teaching packet, learner routes, print aids and optional examples. This page and the worked key are public, so these are not secure test items; change a case locally if prior access matters. They sample transfer across selected English, mathematics and design/economic reasoning; they are not a grade, diagnosis, real-world approval or complete Year 8 judgement. Collect the first response before an edit. Note independent print, exact adult reading, calculator, AAC, directed scribe and prompts separately. Read-aloud supports listening comprehension, not independent print decoding. A wrong arithmetic operation may need a mathematics next move; do not infer that source analysis is absent. If a learner cannot respond, mark not yet observed and revisit with another fresh source. Keep all work privately under school policy; SubjectNest receives no identifying evidence.

Check A Day 15 new ribbon source

New fictional paper source, shown only today:

A design note proposes three identical paper ribbons. Each ribbon has an 8 cm title space and k labels, each 5 cm long. The length of one ribbon is 8+5k cm; the length of all three combined is Q(k)=3(8+5k) cm. Each ribbon is drawn on a 33 cm line. With k=5, one ribbon needs 8+5×5=33 cm and the three together need 99 cm of paper length. With k=6, one needs 38 cm, beyond the drawn 33 cm line. No adhesive, real board or reader test has been measured.

A draft caption says: “Three ribbons fit every real noticeboard. Every reader will find every label. Our 99 cm result proves it.”

All ribbons, people, dimensions and results are invented. This is not a physical-installation plan or safety approval.

Learner tasks:

Expand 3(8+5k) and explain what the 3 multiplies. Use the source to say what 33 cm and 99 cm each measure.
Give one valid model conclusion at k=5 or k=6, with the unit and source condition.
Identify one phrase in the caption that outruns the paper note. Explain exactly what evidence is missing.
Make a three- or four-sentence caption or equivalent directed/oral/AAC response for a new reader, with the sourced result, a limit and one specific next paper or approved site/reader test. Do not claim a real installation is authorised.

Check B Day 20 new zine session source

New fictional time-and-cost source, shown only today:

The paper-zine desk has a 38-minute model session. Setup takes 6 minutes, and each complete demonstration takes 8 minutes. For a non-negative whole number r of demonstrations, 6+8r≤38. Four demonstrations use 38 minutes; five would need 46. Separately, two fictional suppliers quote costs for c blank paper-zine kits: H asks H(c)=10+3c tokens, J asks J(c)=5c tokens. The imaginary materials budget is 25 tokens. At c=4, H costs 22 and J costs 20. Neither quote reports paper quality, waste or availability. The number of people, kits used per demonstration, questions, changeover and access arrangements are unknown.

A poster says: “Everyone will finish a zine in this session! Four demonstrations fit and four kits cost only 20 tokens, so the result is guaranteed.”

Everything in this source is invented. r counts demonstrations and c counts kits; neither variable counts people.

Learner tasks:

Use substitution or an inequality step to state the largest complete model demonstration count, with a check at the next whole number.
Compare the listed H and J costs at four kits and say which fits the imaginary budget; keep r and c distinct.
Identify an unsupported poster promise and explain why the time and cost results do not establish it.
Write, direct or give a quiet oral/AAC four-sentence recommendation to the fictional editor: valid model result, cost comparison, source limit and one checkable next question.
