Local gate before any action: Check school material hygiene, allergies, sensory comfort, volume, container and accessibility procedures. Adults prepare all full-size pieces and any cutting. Candidate samples are clean broad reused card and a clean large school-approved non-latex cloth; neither is declared quieter, grippier, stronger, waterproof or allergy-free. A stable dry tabletop, thick marker and large labels suffice. No child must make a sound, hear a tap, touch a material, handle a vessel or publicly perform. No small pieces, glass, water, dye, food, pins, staples, blades, electricity or personal instruments. Spoken, drawn, AAC, signed and child-directed adult routes are available. The A4 aids are diagrams, not pads sized for actual vessels.

| Two material candidates | BROAD CARD and CLEAN SOFT CLOTH are two proposed large samples for a pretend maker. Their properties/results are UNKNOWN UNTIL APPROVED LOOK/TOUCH/TRY. | Names and drawings are not observed sound, friction or safety results. |
| Purpose comparison | GENTLE CUE PAD serves a pretend listener who wants an optional call/response signal; DRY LANDING PAD serves an adult placing two empty unbreakable labelled vessels. | One material need not serve both users. No real listener, vessel or capacity result is supplied. |
| Safe steps | 1 ADULT CHECKS, 2 CHOOSE A BROAD PAD, 3 TRY ONE APPROVED ACTION, 4 ASK AND RECORD. | The teacher chooses either a comfortable optional cue or adult-controlled empty-vessel placement. No result is preselected. |
| Design record | Blank user/purpose, two material ideas/choice, handler/actual action, user/next question. | A child choice, physical handling and user's actual report remain separate. |
| Dry vessel source | Fictional EMPTY A and EMPTY B outlines with visible label/fill-line placeholders. NO WATER. A broad pad may be placed under either, but actual adult placement is not shown. | A dry model cannot establish which holds more, leak resistance or wet stability. |
| Local source slot | Blank real familiar product/service/environment, provenance/permission/date, child-seen feature, purpose question. | Leave empty without a school-approved authentic observation. |
Optional cue try: After approval, a child may place a broad pad and make one gentle tap/press, or direct an adult who does. Agree on comfortable volume and stop signal with any willing listener first; a completely silent pointing route is always valid design planning. Record who physically acted, what the listener actually heard/felt/saw or said, and any sensory or access adjustment. Never label a material “quiet” for everyone from one subjective report; do not simulate a successful listener response on a printed sheet.
Optional dry placement: Adult, not child, places approved empty unbreakable vessel A and B separately on a broad pad on a clear stable table; stop at any risk of tip. No pushing, shaking, pouring or water. Record the actual vessel/pad/handler. FULLY ON means the visible base of that vessel was wholly inside the pad boundary at the moment of inspection; EDGE OFF means part of the visible base lay outside; NOT TRIED means no approved placement. Record each vessel separately and any actual user's ability to find A/B and fill-line labels if a willing person checks. These labels do not prove capacity or safety under water.
Held checks: Day 75 Puppet Signal Pad uses a fresh fictional gentle-cue user and two blank design spaces. Day 80 Museum Vessel Pad uses a fresh dry empty-vessel source and two blank design spaces. Do not rehearse the held names/details before first responses.
Private educator note: record child design purpose, two ideas, material observation source (seen/touched/adult-described), supports, physical handler, exact willing user feedback or dry base position if actually observed, change and next question. Store identified child work only under school policy.
