Use A fictional badge source, five broad safe physical badge stand-ins, two rule cards SHAPE and BORDER, and B/C large grouping bays. A neutral adult reads fixed text or moves tokens exactly as the child directs. No device, internet, account, hearing, speech, fine motor grip or child data is needed. This reaches the same choose a question → group the source → check with the source target as the offline interactive, offering partial AC9TDIFK02 representation. It does not show child exploration of running hardware/software; record AC9TDIFK01 NOT OBSERVED unless a separate real session occurred.
- Place source IDs 1–5 in order:
1 circle solid,2 triangle dashed,3 circle dashed,4 triangle solid,5 circle border NOT SHOWN. - Child chooses a rule card. If SHAPE, use CIRCLE and TRIANGLE bays. If BORDER, use SOLID, DASHED and CANNOT TELL bays. Keep both source and rule visible.
- Child places or directs each physical token. Point to its matching picture and agreed symbol code. For SHAPE the source-backed groups are circle 1,3,5, triangle 2,4. For BORDER they are solid 1,4, dashed 2,3, cannot tell 5. Keep this answer part covered until the child finishes a first response.
- Child asks to check. Reveal the relevant rule's source-backed key or compare each ID to the original source one at a time. If a badge is misplaced, say its ID and the field to inspect, without blame. Child can revise. Save the first response and any change separately.
- For a different question, return all five to the start; the source stays the same while the selected rule and grouping bays change.
The screen route uses fixed source cards, question buttons and native choice menus; it may record actual system exploration if the device gate is met. The paper route may show a child moving physical tokens. A screen icon is still a picture, not a physical token. Neither route proves a real local Science observation.
