The classroom lessons work entirely with invented people and places. A teacher may offer these options through the school's approved private communication route after checking whether asking is appropriate. Do not auto-send a message, require a family photo, collect an address, ask for a birthplace in front of peers, or describe one family pattern as typical. A learner whose family does not participate uses the same fictional cards and is not penalised; personal-content evidence remains not observed.

Option Invitation the school may adapt What the teacher may record
Child-led role words “If you would like, tell me privately about one person important in your family or care network and how you describe the connection. You can pass.” Only what the child chose to say, with permission and school privacy controls. No inferred legal/cultural relationship.
Carer-supported broad place “If your family wants to, you can share a broad place linked to a person and whether it is where they were born or grew up. You can leave either part blank.” Source attribution and exact consented broad wording; never force a precise town, address, migration reason or official record.
Story without names “You could tell a short story about a person helping in a place, using roles rather than names.” Inquiry/narrative skill only unless the story genuinely and voluntarily addresses an own-family descriptor.
Pass or fictional route “You can choose the invented Paper Harbor source instead.” Normal participation in S01–S05 practice. K01 personal evidence remains open; passing is not a misconception.

When a child volunteers sensitive or concerning information, follow current school safeguarding and record-handling procedures; do not turn the HASS activity into a public investigation. If a family wants a home-language response, a competent locally approved interpreter/translation process is needed before the teacher claims accuracy. No translation or First Nations language text is supplied here.
