Each row offers three real routes to the same musical thinking target, not three levels of presumed ability. The learner chooses a route and may switch or pass. For a printed answer, an adult may read the prompt exactly and move cards only at the learner's direction. For candidate sound, adult review/volume approval and child choice are additional gates; the card route stands independently.

Day High-contrast visual/print route Tactile or movement route Spoken/AAC/directing route
Match printed V/VERY SOFT and S/SOFT to one/two dots, then choose one event mark. Feel one or two raised dots on two fixed cards; place chosen mark in one slot. Say, select on AAC, or direct an adult to place V or S and name its relative meaning.
Read V V S S left to right and circle the one lift gap. Fix four cards in raised slots and place a thick marker between 2 and 3. Direct the four-card order and tell the adult “lift after 2” for neutral recording.
Read S S V V; underline the softer ending and mark the release gap. Touch two-dot, two-dot, one-dot, one-dot cards and mark the 2→3 boundary. Use AAC “soft to very soft” or dictate the four marks and change point.
Overlay two printed rows; point to first differing place and choose one for an idea. Compare two fixed raised rows one slot at a time; set a token on differing place 2. Hear/read the rows neutrally, direct a row choice and state a self-chosen intention.
Independently scan the unfamiliar five-place W score and mark changed gaps. Independently feel fixed W cards and place broad markers in chosen gaps. Have W read once without cues; direct every card and gap via AAC or neutral scribe.
Put V/S only in “planned”; leave other fields “not tried” unless a trial occurs. Place a plan token in a raised three-field log; leave observation/comfort tokens blank or “not tried.” Dictate whether an actual approved event happened and one's own comfort response; silence is valid.
Compare V V S V and V S S V, colour-free box around the sole changed place. Overlay two fixed strips; physically replace only the second card in the new row. Direct one replacement and state which first lift boundary moved, with neutral scribing.
Draw/write four V/S marks and a phrase about the intended musical shape. Compose in four raised slots with one/two-dot cards and select an intention token. Direct each slot through AAC/words, then state an idea; adult records exact first score.
Choose private, paper showing or approved sound; point to real-work source if offered. Give or retain a tactile score with a willing recipient, or keep it privately. Ask/answer about the cleared maker/source and direct an optional recipient; pass needs no reason.
Independently fill four blank slots with exactly one S and three V, then mark its place. Choose the sole two-dot card position among three one-dot cards on a fixed strip. Direct all four placements, say where S goes and give an intended idea; adult supplies no pattern.
