Twenty worked… | Foundation Science · T1 W5–6 · Optional Practice

These original short cases can extend or replace context after the main lesson. All named situations below are fictional model practice unless an adult obtains a school-approved real dated source and logs what actually happened. The worked answer models a bounded claim; it is not supplied local data. No family purchases, personal disclosures, animal handling or fixed learning-style assignment.

Day 21

Community garden sign: A drawing shows three long lines beside a plant icon. Worked: say “the drawing has three lines”; do not report three stems on a local plant without a live source.
Library nature shelf: Someone says “the leaf must be soft because it looks pale.” Worked: colour alone does not establish feel; use a locally safe permitted sense route or leave texture unknown.

Day 22

Window box: Plant A's actual dated view shows two broad leaf outlines; B is blocked by a curtain. Worked: compare A only; do not count or classify unseen B leaves.
Picture-book pair: Two invented plant drawings show different line lengths. Worked: the drawings differ in shown line length; that does not establish a difference between actual live plants.

Day 23

Park poster: A licensed photograph shows one visible wing outline. Worked: label PHOTO and say it shows the outline; do not claim the child saw a live bird or knows its diet.
Night story: An invented creature picture has three pointed marks. Worked: describe the marks only; no real species or behaviour has been observed.

Day 24

Museum drawing tray: Three invented cards can sort by “has an oval” then “has a long line.” Worked: different rules move cards while marks stay unchanged; this is model grouping only.
Safe view notebook: Two dated plant feature cards show an actually visible long stem in one and no stem visible in the other's view. Worked: place second in CANNOT TELL, not “has no stem”, unless source supports absence.

Day 25

Garden map: A child draws one branch line and asks whether another safe live plant has a branch. Worked: good next question; the drawn line is not evidence about that other plant.
Animal puzzle: A toy has four legs and a tail. Worked: a toy is not a live animal source; it can teach words but cannot supply real external-feature observation.

Day 26

Theatre sign: A fictional black circle should be seen behind a cover. Worked: choose a testable visibility question for a locally approved actual panel; the fictional scene gives no result.
Guessing game: A fictional symbol should be hidden from view. Worked: the job changes the useful choice, but test the exact real panel before claiming it hides the symbol.

Day 27

Art folder: An adult reports seeing the filled circle through an approved panel while the child hears the report. Worked: write ADULT REPORT with exact source/date/conditions; do not relabel direct sight.
Craft label: Model H3 has no symbol record. Worked: “not recorded” is different from “could not be seen”; an actual trial is still needed.

Day 28

Stage screen: Two approved real panels differ in material and colour. Worked: record actual views if tested, but do not say material alone caused a difference.
Shop display model: A drawing puts CLEAR over COVER and prints no symbol. Worked: it is a model of two layers; cannot prove what any classroom composite permits us to see.

Day 29

Reading corner: A dated approved panel test showed the printed symbol visible under stated conditions. Worked: that exact panel is a candidate for a visible-sign job; record the actual log and don't generalise to all panels.
Paper mystery: Only invented H2 is available. Worked: it can inspire a hiding-screen design question, but mark ACTUAL RESULT NOT TESTED and make no local material recommendation.

Day 30

Bus timetable cover: A clear-looking drawing has no verified actual panel. Worked: a drawing cannot verify material or visibility; source and safe trial remain needed.
Art-box divider: Adult selects two broad panels but one must be held closer to the card. Worked: note the changed distance, compare exact observed outcomes only and avoid assigning cause to material alone.
