The official QCAA Visual Art 2025 v1.3 General senior syllabus is the authority. Unit 1 is Art as lens (printed p 22); unlike other subjects it does not have a “Topic 1.” QCAA organises Unit 1 subject matter by areas of study: Developing (printed p 23), Researching (p 24), Reflecting and Resolving (p 25), and Key terminology (p 26 onward). Inquiry processes are interrelated and nonsequential (printed p 10), so the day order is a teacher-friendly opening route, not an official sequence. A unit has a notional 55 hours; this pack supplies 250 minutes only.

Syllabus Unit 1 idea, paraphrased Opening evidence Important boundary
Developing: direct observation and representation of people, places and/or objects; investigate realism, abstraction, visual language and material safety Days 1–6, 8; original paper form and mark/crop/reduction/sequence aids Focus here is an object; people and place remain for later teaching. No hazardous processes.
Researching: react to stimulus, compare viewpoints through personal/contemporary contexts, investigate artist practices and sources Days 1, 7, 9; original observation plus QAGOMA record capsule One linked institutional record is a start, not full artist research or reverse chronology case study. No imitation.
Reflecting: consider how a lens changes representation, document process and justify viewpoint Days 2–9 and both checks; decision logs and audience readings Learners may keep personal context fictional or impersonal.
Resolving: communicate an idea through visual, written or spoken form, reference sources and consider display Days 8–10; small storyboard, folio selection and check B A three-item sample is not a resolved unit folio or exhibition.
Key terminology: viewpoint/lens, figurative, non-figurative, distortion, composition, medium, process, audience All days, with definitions used in context Terms are introduced, not claimed exhausted.

The syllabus asks students to use a range of two-dimensional, three-dimensional and/or time-based media, and to work as artist and audience. This opener offers pencil drawing, paper relief and a three-frame sequence plan. A school must continue artist research, authentic experiences, diverse media, explicit safety, reflection and assessment across the full unit. The two public checks here are not school assessment instruments and cannot alone determine a QCAA unit result. The subject's current official PDF is v1.3, not the older v1.2 result that search engines may still display.
