Goal: represent and compare 0.2–0.9 on same-sized wholes. Materials: ten strips, art/transit cards, number line.

  1. Notice, 3: Retrieve 0.1. “If one more equal tenth is shaded, what fraction and decimal?” Key: 2/10, 0.2.
  2. Model, 5: Shade 0.7 beside 0.3 on equal strips. “Both wholes match. Seven tenths is greater than three tenths.” Place 0.3 and 0.7 on equal-spaced tenths line, with zero and one labelled.
  3. Together, 8: Build 0.2, 0.5, 0.9; order by shaded cells and locate on line. Use art-strip 0.7 and transit-board 0.9 cards. Ask what stays fixed: the size of a whole and equal tenth cells.
  4. Try, 6: Learner draws/selects 0.6 and 0.8, then points to the greater and explains with matched strips. Alternative is two rows of ten tactile cells.
  5. Check, 3: Order 0.4, 0.9, 0.2. Key: 0.2<0.4<0.9. If learner orders by how much blank space appears, turn strips to same orientation and count filled equal cells.
