Ten minutes · listening / noticing. You need: A quiet spot, scrap paper and a crayon. Paper is optional.
Play: Pause together for a short moment. Invite the child to notice a sound, a vibration, a movement or a patch of quiet. Put one mark on paper for each thing noticed, or point towards it. The child can ask to stop the quiet moment at any time.
Adult says: “What did you notice?” “Where was it?” “Did it stay the same?” If you heard different things, compare gently; neither is wrong.
Child chooses: Listen, look, feel, draw, move a counter or simply sit with you. Sound is optional; this is not a hearing check.
Notice: What did the child attend to or return to? How did they share their observation?
Access and safety: For a deaf or sound-sensitive child, map visible movement or safe table vibration instead. Use one mark at a time for low visual load. Avoid making loud noises to force an answer. No screen is needed; a short local recording is optional only with the family's consent.
