Local gate: An adult selects and prepares any clean broad blunt A3-or-larger school-approved paper and two large practice cards. Check hygiene, allergies, finger comfort, visibility, safe table space, individual access and permission before making. No blades, staples, pins, small clips, glue, tape, laminator, weight/load test, pressure test, drop, shaking, outdoor collection, unknown litter, child location, real student data or public upload is needed. A child can fold or insert only if the adult permits and supervises; an adult handles preparation and any school contact or real place. Spoken, drawn, AAC, signed and child-directed adult routes are complete without paper. The A4 pages are diagrams, not fold templates sized for actual cards.

Optional approved folder try: On a stable clear table, adult prepares a large clean sheet and two large broad practice cards. A willing child may choose SIDE or TOP orientation and make one broad fold under adult control, or direct an adult to fold. Place both labelled practice cards inside without fastening. A different willing adult/peer may open the folder and locate the requested CLOSE or WIDE card using only the folder's labels; record the exact card selected and words/action, plus any prompt. One ordinary open/find interaction is enough. Do not shake, drop, pull, load or stress the folder. If not approved, write NOT TRIED for physical making and reader trial.
Week 18 transfer: Use a fictional request card and blank answer card to design a handoff. An adult with actual school authority handles any real request/answer outside this pack. Never pre-fill “yes,” “approved” or an actual action. If an authorised answer is not genuinely obtained, status is WAITING / NO ANSWER and no action is authorised by the folder. A child may show the purpose of keeping question and reply together without visiting or changing a real shared place.
Held checks: Check A uses a fresh fictional lantern drawing pair. Check B uses a fresh fictional garden-view request with a blank reply. Do not rehearse those exact names or facts before first responses.
Private educator note: record intended user/purpose, two distinct designs, provisional choice, material source, adult approval, who folded/inserted/retrieved, exact willing reader response if any, source/status truthfulness, revision and access support. Identified child work follows school storage rules.
