The records on this page were made for this lesson. No person played a game, attended an event, answered a survey or supplied personal information. Do not turn a pattern here into a claim about actual learners, audiences, products or causes. Keep every denominator and category attached to its source.
Source G · game-map draft marks
A fictional design notebook lists how many clue icons were placed on each draft game map. x is the number of rooms on a map; y is the number of clue icons in that draft. Repeated room counts are separate draft maps, not duplicate measurements of one map. No one tested whether a map is playable.
| Draft | Rooms x |
Clue icons y |
|---|---|---|
| A | 1 | 5 |
| B | 1 | 6 |
| C | 2 | 8 |
| D | 2 | 9 |
| E | 3 | 11 |
| F | 3 | 12 |
| G | 4 | 14 |
| H | 4 | 15 |
| I | 5 | 22 |
For comparison, the notebook proposes M(x)=3x+2 clue icons as a simple description, not a rule for every map. A residual is listed icons − model icons. This line predicts 5, 8, 11, 14, 17 for x=1..5; the five-room draft differs most. Do not call an unexplained difference an error, let alone a cause. A claimed pattern can be tested against the whole nine-draft set.
Source G2 · invented promotion
“Every extra room guarantees exactly three more clues. We checked nine maps; the design rule works without exception. Use it for any game.”
This is a fictional notice to critique. It selects an attractive interpretation; no sampling method or gameplay outcome is reported.
Source C · game-card design register
A different fictional desk notebook lists 50 made-up card designs, not players or purchasers. Two variables were recorded: the intended theme label and whether the draft design uses two sides. Eight cards have no assigned theme but their side count is recorded. “Unassigned” is a category of the notebook, not a judgement about a person.
| Theme label | Two-sided | One-sided | Row total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Puzzle | 18 | 6 | 24 |
| Story | 9 | 9 | 18 |
| No theme assigned | 3 | 5 | 8 |
| All designs | 30 | 20 | 50 |
A designer says, “Three quarters of all cards are two-sided.” Check which group could give 3/4 and whether that is the whole register. The table cannot show why a design received its theme, whether two sides are better, or what players prefer. If a future group wanted to investigate player preference, it would need a new ethical, authorised and privacy-safe design; this table contains no such evidence.
Optional constructed mini-deck for Day 19
These 12 entirely new imaginary cards are not added to Source C's 50 unless a task explicitly says so. Each pair is theme / sides: Puzzle/2, Puzzle/1, Puzzle/2, Story/1, Story/2, Story/2, Story/1, No theme/2, No theme/1, Puzzle/2, Story/2, No theme/1. Learners may sort physical word cards, arrange the text list, or dictate the same two-way table. The correct mini-deck counts are in the teacher guide; the class is conducting a paper classification of constructed records, not observing a real population.
