All texts and data here are fictional. Use the reading set and learner data cards. Your response may be written, typed, spoken with a local transcript, or made with AAC. Keep the exact words and numbers available. No personal story or family financial information is needed. Your teacher decides when to give each card.
Day 4 · Put a careful caption in order
Cut or copy these four strips. They are deliberately out of order. Arrange them so an unfamiliar reader can find the source, pattern, support and limit. Then explain which strip you want readers to see first and why.
- “These numbers cannot tell us what a real journey would take because traffic and stops were not recorded.”
- “The listed duration generally increases as route distance increases.”
- “The six route pairs in this classroom sheet were invented.”
- “For example, the 2 km route is listed as 7 minutes and the 12 km route as 35 minutes.”
There can be a defensible variation in sentence order if the source and limit stay clear. Do not claim that the invented routes predict a real trip.
Day 5 · Check A: a caption worth trusting
For a reader who has not seen the fictional cart table, create a 3–4 sentence caption. Include what was simulated, a pattern supported by at least one number with its unit, and one thing the data cannot show. Use your own wording. You may consult the data, but do not copy Text C whole. A labelled four-part response or equivalent accessible presentation is welcome.
Before submitting, find any use of “proves”, “always”, or a mix-up between speed and acceleration. Repair it if needed. The aim is an accurate explanation, not a dramatic headline.
Day 10 · Check B: read a fresh claim and revise it
Fresh fictional statement: “Plan A is the smart choice for everyone because its setup charge is $240 lower than B's. All households save with A, even after ten months. There is no need to read the terms.”
- State the claim and quote one figure that is valid in the invented plan data.
- Find one overstatement or missing condition. What priority does the writer appear to value?
- Write 3–4 sentences for the invented ten-month household. Use at least one correct ten-month comparison, name an alternative or a reason to defer, and ask one question that would need a real source before a real choice.
You may disagree with the statement's conclusion. Explain your reason using the same time horizon and the limits of the invented model.
