A separate General Legal Studies elective starter. These ten original 25-minute sessions open QCAA Legal Studies 2025 v1.3, Unit 1 Beyond reasonable doubt, Topic 1 Legal foundations. The 250 minutes are 4 hours 10 minutes of a 55-hour unit. The syllabus does not allocate a separate time to Topic 1. The fortnight is not a complete topic, unit, year, Queensland course of study or summative assessment program.
Start teaching: Use the timed teacher scripts with eight short teaching source cards. Students receive a clean task page and may choose three same-target routes each day. Twenty worked context swaps supply extra examples from school, public spaces, work, sport, transport and online life. On Days 5 and 10, use fresh, public formative checks, record the student's first response, then consult the separate teacher key. Five original A4 print aids have SVG, selectable-text PDF, written and tactile rebuild routes. Every named place, person, purported local rule, model bill and model legal text on the teaching cards is fictional unless explicitly labelled as an authentic source.
Legal accuracy: A model bill is not an enacted law; no offence is supplied by it. A school rule is not automatically a crime. An allegation is not proof of guilt. Queensland criminal procedure, offences and penalties change; consult the current authorised legislation and qualified local advice before a real-world conclusion. These activities discuss legal systems for education; they do not give personal legal advice or invite students to share a personal criminal or family matter. The Australian Law Reform Commission's historic report is used to examine multiple Aboriginal customary law systems and the limits of recognition in Australian state law. No fictional First Nations voice, rule or community knowledge is invented. Seek local First Nations partnership and contemporary, community-approved sources for fuller teaching.
Access: Every learner can switch between a visual source sort, movable full-word cards, and structured spoken/AAC/dictated reasoning. The target legal distinction and evidence requirement stay the same; record any reading, scribe or prompting support when interpreting independent work. Do not assign a route by diagnosis or presumed learning style. The PDFs have selectable text but are untagged; use the text versions where a screen reader needs structure. No home legal problem, migration status or disability disclosure is requested.
The crosswalk, source and rights ledger, internal run-through and SHA-256 receipt make the claim reviewable. These two checks and their worked keys are public, so they are not secure school exams. QCAA requires a school-developed Unit 1 and Unit 2 assessment program with at least two and no more than four assessments in total, at least one per unit, and all unit objectives assessed at least once. This starter supplies practice and diagnostic evidence only. It has no classroom pilot, independent legal review, cultural review, translation review, specialist accessibility review or measured learning impact.
