Ten minutes · home routine / trying ideas. You need: Two or three clean, large, lightweight containers and their safe lids. No glass, tight seals or small pieces.
Play: Mix the lids. Invite the child to find a fit, but let them turn a container into a drum, boat or storage box instead. Try one lid, notice what happens, and change it if they want. Open a lid for them if it is hard.
Adult says: “What might fit here?” “What happened when you tried it?” “What else could this container be?”
Child chooses: Match, nest, pretend, or watch and direct. They can keep trying or leave the problem unfinished.
Notice: Did they compare size or shape, test a guess, or invent another use? Describe the action rather than calling it success or failure.
Access and safety: Large handles and one pair at a time reduce motor and visual load. Offer a tactile edge comparison; let an adult twist at the child's direction. Keep plastic bags and sharp packaging out of reach. No screen is needed.
