One card at a time. Try the short print before any picture. You can point, move letters, speak, sign, use AAC, draw or direct an adult to write your idea. You may always use a made-up character. You do not have to tell the class about your family, a celebration, a feeling or a problem.

Read first. Listen to the teacher's made-up Book Day story. Point to before, during or after for a part you heard.

Read first. Listen to one invented event. Tell what happened in that story, not what every family does.

Read a taught word. Then put three adult-read event cards in order and tell one listener what came first and next.

Read two words in a new order. Your teacher will bring a new little event story. Listen, place its parts and give one source clue.
116 · A character may feel differently

Read the print as a sentence a made-up character might say. Listen to Ari's story. What did Ari actually say? Could another person feel differently?

Read first. In a made-up noisy game, choose a respectful request for a quiet place or another safe way to join. You can point to a card instead of saying it aloud.

I can see a map.
Read first. Listen to a partner or adult. Tell what the character said they felt, or call your idea a guess and give a story clue.
119 · Choose a more exact word

Blend two. With adult-read choices, say whether a story character may feel worried, disappointed or pleased, and what in the story supports your idea. There can be more than one reasonable feeling; do not guess a real classmate's feelings from their face.
Day 120 has a new teacher card. Your first answer helps plan the next lesson. You may answer privately or pass on a personal example.
