Genuine animal external-feature evidence

The adult preflights a school-approved, accessible, quiet, distant viewing place, weather/heat/air quality, supervision, boundaries, child comfort and local animal safety rules. Never chase, feed, lure, touch, collect, trap, approach, photograph children or require outdoor movement. An animal may not appear; record NOT SEEN TODAY, not a fabricated event. Do not infer behaviour, species, sex, health, habitat preference or cultural significance from appearance. A safe approved indoor/window view is legitimate. No child must touch an animal or sensory specimen. A neutral adult description remains ADULT REPORT, not the child's direct visual observation.

Teacher may instead select a real, rights-cleared animal photograph under school policy. Before display, check creator/source URL, licence/permission, image date or date viewed (distinguish), subject and crop, and whether any person/location detail needs privacy protection. Label PHOTO and the depicted feature only; a photo does not establish an animal visited the school or that a hidden feature is absent. A printout's raised/traced outline is a representation of a photo, not direct animal touch. No external photo is bundled in this original pack; if the school cannot verify rights/provenance, do not use it. For two-animal grouping, two distinct approved real animal sources are required (two views of the same animal are not two animals), each with source/date/view/access and one visible external feature under a child-stated rule. If identity/difference cannot be established, mark UNKNOWN and do not claim grouping.

Record every actual source's local date of direct view or documented photo source/date viewed, subject ID kept privately, exact view/crop, visible external feature, DIRECT / PHOTO / ADULT REPORT access, adult prompt, and uncertainty. A photograph may allow observation of depicted visible features with PHOTO label; it does not count as a child's direct live viewing. If an earlier approved record is missing, a new one is NEW EVIDENCE, not a reconstructed old view. REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE remains honest when neither safe live view nor verified photo exists. In that case the paper models below support source reasoning only; they cannot establish a real animal feature or AC9SFI02 live sensory investigation. If a photo is observed, record that as mediated viewing and avoid describing it as a live local investigation.

Complete original fictional teaching sources

Model A · invented animal-like outline, two frames. Full text: “FICTIONAL PAPER MODEL A. One invented animal-like outline has a round body, two triangular ear-like marks, four short leg-like strokes and one long curved tail-like stroke. The WIDE frame shows all those marks. The CLOSE frame shows the body and ear-like marks; its lower and right edges cut off the leg-like and tail-like strokes. The author has not drawn or photographed a real animal. A viewer with only CLOSE cannot know what lies outside its border. WIDE lets us describe the full drawing, not a real species or animal.” Exact nonvisual/tactile: read all sentences; use one large secured raised outline with broad WIDE and adult-controlled CLOSE borders. Name marks “-like”; no small tokens or animal contact. Model A's figure is deliberately non-species-specific.

Model B · invented source exchange. Complete dialogue: “Reader: ‘The close picture has no tail.’ Maker: ‘The close frame does not show the tail-like mark; the wide drawing does. Both are fictional.’ Reader: ‘Could a real animal have a feature outside a crop?’ Maker: ‘Yes. We would need a safe full real view or a provenanced photo that shows it.’” This is an invented dialogue, not actual classroom feedback or a real animal result. Exact nonvisual/tactile: adult reads each labelled turn and places fixed CLOSE / WIDE / UNKNOWN cards.

Model C · three invented animal-like pattern drawings. Full text: “FICTIONAL MODEL C. Drawing 1 has a round body outline and two long line marks extending from its sides. Drawing 2 has a round body outline and two short line marks extending from its sides. Drawing 3 has a round body outline and no side marks in the view. All three are invented drawings, with no real species or animal identity. We can group the drawings by long/short/not-shown side marks, but cannot claim any real animal has or lacks a feature.” Exact nonvisual/tactile: read the source in full; use three broad fixed large outlines labelled DRAWING 1/2/3 and MODEL. “Not shown” is a view description, not absence from a real organism.
